And They Say Republicans Have No Ideas

Showing the GOP propensity for brilliant and innovative political strategies, Texas Rep. Louie Gohmert has proposed stopping
the "Federal power grab" that is health reform by going back to 1913
and repealing the 17th amendment, which calls for electing senators by
that pesky entity known as "the people" - though Media Matters notes that would mean no Scott Brown. Health reform means the circus is definitely coming to town.

"The
usurpation of the rights of the states and of the people perpetrated by
the U.S. House last night is blatant, arrogant, and cries out for
action. A potentially bankrupting ‘mother of all unfunded mandates'
needs to be stopped."

FRIENDS: Help Us Fight

Independent journalism has become the last firewall against government and corporate lies. Yet, with frightening regularity, independent media sources are losing funding, closing down or being blacked out by Google and Facebook. Never before has independent media been more endangered. If you believe in Common Dreams, if you believe in people-powered independent media, please support us now and help us fight—with truths—against the lies that would smother our democracy. Please help keep Common Dreams alive and growing. Thank you. -- Craig Brown, Co-founder
