To Wipe the Spit Off His Face, Biden Had to Say It Was Only Rain

From Haaretz, a look at the PR debacle - and illuminating moment - that was Biden's visit to
Israel. The dance was delicate: Netanyahu apologized, not for another
illegal incursion into East Jerusalem but for announcing it while Biden
was there; Biden obligingly said thank goodness said incursion won't
happen for a few years, and went on his way; within hours, Netanyanhu closed
the West Bank, fearing protests. Most likely, the U.S. will continue to
turn a blind eye to Israeli excesses. Still, some argue
that the incident exposed in a newly raw way the need for Israel to
deal with its "settler-occupation demon" before it's too late.

Please help keep Common Dreams alive and growing. Thank you. -- Craig Brown, Co-founder
