Following the guilty plea of a former New Orleans policeman, details on a massive and particularly slimy cover-up
in the shooting of six unarmed people – two died – looking for
food in the chaos following Hurricane Katrina. Former Lt. Michael
Lohman admitted to a federal obstruction charge in the first of more
likely charges of misconduct by police acting, said one editorial, as "a lawless gang."

"(The charge) is really indicative of a systemic integrity issue,” said Rafael C.
Goyeneche III, a former prosecutor with a New Orleans watchdog group. “It’s going to
rock the Police Department to the core.”
