Get Back, Get Back

The loss of Ted Kennedy's Senate seat to what Jon Stewart called "a
naked guy with a truck" - not to mention a  mediocre rightwing guy who
opposes health reform and supports waterboarding - is a travesty. As
Katrina vanden Heuvel cogently notes,
it's
also a wake-up call to a president who has too easily abandoned
the progressive principles on which he campaigned, and for which we
elected him. Caution, fear,
expediency, the much-touted red herring of bi-partisanship - these have
not served Obama, or us, or Kennedy's legacy, well. Obama and the
Democrats have gotten their heads so far inside the beltway they've lost all
connection with the people, and need, outside it. Remember that mantra
of change? He needs to get
back to where he once belonged, or we all lose.

This is the world we live in. This is the world we cover.

Because of people like you, another world is possible. There are many battles to be won, but we will battle them together—all of us. Common Dreams is not your normal news site. We don't survive on clicks. We don't want advertising dollars. We want the world to be a better place. But we can't do it alone. It doesn't work that way. We need you. If you can help today—because every gift of every size matters—please do.
