Verily, I Say Unto Thee: The Dude Abideth

by
Abby Zimet

The Dude
has gone Shakespearean thanks to Adam Bertocci, a formerly little-known
screenwriter who took upon himself the lunatic but intriguing idea of
transforming the Coen Brothers' much beloved Jeffrey 'The Dude'
Lebowski, played by the splendid Jeff Bridges, into Geofrrey 'The
Knave' Lebowski. The resulting 75-page "Two Gentlemen of Lebowski" may yet make it to your neighborhood multiplex, or at least bowling alley.

"O toe!
Thou wouldst have a toe? A toe can be obtain'd.
Ways are known, Knave. Thou wilt not like to hear.
I'll have a toe for thee this afternoon."

This is the world we live in. This is the world we cover.

Because of people like you, another world is possible. There are many battles to be won, but we will battle them together—all of us. Common Dreams is not your normal news site. We don't survive on clicks. We don't want advertising dollars. We want the world to be a better place. But we can't do it alone. It doesn't work that way. We need you. If you can help today—because every gift of every size matters—please do. Without Your Support We Simply Won't Exist.
