In a move that could set a new standard of corporate responsibility for human rights abuses, a New York judge has allowed a lawsuit
to go forward against IBM, General Motors, Ford and other companies
over their roles in South Africa's three-decade-long policy of
apartheid. The suit, filed on behalf of anti-apartheid leaders and "all
black South African citizens," says the automakers provided armored
military vehicles and other help in suppressing protests.
