The Health Care "Debate"
Unsurprising But Still Appalling News Dept: Washington lobbyists
are on track to break last year's record spending of $3.3. billion,
with health care taking the biggest piece of the dirty pie and drug
companies spending the most money ever spent by any industry on any
issue. A study
by the Center for Responsive Politics found a total of 3,300 health
care lobbyists, six for every senator and congressman, with three new
lobbyists born each profitable day.
"Lobbyists love it ... when you've got serious problems like this, and people want to do
something about it," said James Thurber, director of American
University's Center for Congressional and Presidential Studies.
