In awful but unsurprising news, the Senate Finance Committee has
rejected the robust public-option health  amendment by West Virginia
Sen. Jay Rockefeller. Thanks to no votes by five Democrats - more here - it went down in a 15-8 vote. The rapacious insurance industry - doesn't everyone hate them? - wins a big one. What is wrong with these people?

Jay Rockefeller on private insurers: "They're getting away with terrible things."

Update: Jeez. Now even Chuck Schumer's very modest, barely public proposal has failed, 10 to 13. If despair was an option, we would.
