One Ringy Dingy
Today we salute Emma Nutt (1860-1915) who on this date in 1878 became the world's first female telephone operator,
working for the Boston Telephone Dispatch Company after too many of their callers
complained the male operators were rude and impatient. She was
paid $10 a month for a 54-hour week, and stayed at her job, ever
courteous, for 33 years.
