In honor of Ted Kennedy's death, some Democrats are arguing
it's time for "a civilized debate" on - and passage of - true health
care reform, and this is all well and good. But writer Anne Lamott
makes a better point:
it's time for health reform in honor of the almost 67 million people
who voted for Obama, not because they wanted him to make friends with
the likes of Chuck Grassley, but in large part because they wanted
health reform, and he promised it, and they believed him.
"You said you would push back your sleeves and begin, that it
would take all of us working harder than we ever had before, but that
you would lead...It is time to call your spirit back."
