Death By A Thousand Self-Inflicted Cuts

Operation Free, a coalition of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans and
others, has blasted the "Energy Citizens" Astroturf campaign as an "Oil
Dependence Tour" orchestrated by Big Oil to forestall much-needed
action on climate change. About 100 veterans will visit D.C. in September to stress the link between energy independence and national security.

Drew Sloan, an Iraq and Afghanistan vet and former employee at the
National Renewable Energy Laboratory and Rocky Mountain Institute,
called the U.S. slow response to climate change
"death by a thousand self-inflicted cuts."  Using an analogy from the
battlefield, Sloan called the climate crisis "a wound that will become
increasingly difficult to heal" unless America acts fast to address it.

This is the world we live in. This is the world we cover.

Because of people like you, another world is possible. There are many battles to be won, but we will battle them together—all of us. Common Dreams is not your normal news site. We don't survive on clicks. We don't want advertising dollars. We want the world to be a better place. But we can't do it alone. It doesn't work that way. We need you. If you can help today—because every gift of every size matters—please do.
