Do You, Comrade, Remember Afghanistan?

A visiting Russian scholar in the U.K. recalls the Soviet war in Afghanistan, and the haunting parallels
with today. Twenty years ago, she notes, a public outcry against a senseless war - and the
willingness of politicians to heed it - led to withdrawal. 

"Do you, comrade, remember Afghanistan? Glows of fires, Muslim cries?" - Soviet war song of the 1980s.
