On First Steps and Universal Language

Israeli conductor Daniel Barenboim brought his
West-Eastern Divan Orchestra of young Arab and Israeli musicians to
Geneva Friday for a
concert dedicated to the late Palestinian-American academic Edward Said
and the choice of the passionately contested Jerusalem as this year's Arab Cultural
Capital.
Said and the Argentinian-born Barenboim started the orchestra 10 years ago to promote mutual understanding.

Rawan al-Kurdi, a Syrian violinist, on conflicts that inevitably arise: "The first step is to talk about it."
