In Praise Of Old Fogies

The Newport Folk
Festival turned 50 this year. Pete Seeger, fighting the good fight as
hard and loud as ever, turned 90. He was joined at this weekend's
festival by a host of other no-longer-young, tireless, activist
artists: Joan Baez, Judy Collins, Mavis Staples and Ramblin' Jack
Elliott, pushing 80. The last night, Seeger sang "War Time Blues" and
other laments, urging the audience, young and old, to join him. Lord
love him and all the rest, still fighting. To listen, go here.

This is the world we live in. This is the world we cover.

Because of people like you, another world is possible. There are many battles to be won, but we will battle them together—all of us. Common Dreams is not your normal news site. We don't survive on clicks. We don't want advertising dollars. We want the world to be a better place. But we can't do it alone. It doesn't work that way. We need you. If you can help today—because every gift of every size matters—please do.
