Declaring put-up-or-shut-up time for socialism-mongering GOP opponents of a public option in health care, Rep. Anthony Weiner, a New York Democrat and Health Subcommittee member, offered an amendment to eliminate Medicare - a hugely successful and yes, government-run program. Nobody voted for it, and Republicans blasted it as "political farce," something they know all about.
"I guess Republicans don't
like publicly funded, publicly administered health plans except for
Medicare, and, I guess, the Veterans Administration, and the health care that our military gets... The fact of the matter is, government administered health care works pretty darn well."
