Unhealthy and Illegal, But Happy Birthday Anyway

Today is International Krispy Kreme Day, marking the 72nd birthday of that wanton, delectable mix of sugar and grease concocted by one Vernon Carver Rudolph in Winston-Salem, N.C. in 1937. Alas, the company marked the milestone by paying a $40,000 fine a few days ago for hiring illegal immigrants at their doughnut factory in Cincinnati, Ohio, one of the first companies hit by a new Obama focus on punishing employers, not employees, for immigration violations.
