With the Waxman-Markey clean energy reform bill heading for a vote in the House, fossil-fueled fear-mongering is gearing up to ridiculous levels. First, the RNC released a "Lights Out" video showing people using candles, and sent candles to lawmakers in case they didn't get the point, warning that's all they'll be able to afford if 'Cap and Tax' passes. Now Newt Gingrich's so-called American Solutions for Winning the Future (ASWF) has launched a dark-hued attack ad worthy of Day of the Triffids warning the bill constitutes a "national energy tax" that will, essentially, end life as we know it. For a Wonk Room investigative piece showing ASWF is a front group for the world's largest coal company, go here.
The "Breaking Point" video: "We’ll lose more jobs, pay more for gas and electricity, pushing our economy to its breaking point. Stop the national energy tax, call your member of Congress before it's too late."
