A terrific, thoughtful report from Philip Weiss on Gaza – the isolation and loneliness, the destruction, the tragic fact that Israel/Palestine has become an epicenter of hatred flowing from both sides, the danger of a Palestinian narrative of dispossession that, like the Israelis' fixation on the Holocaust, distorts the sense of who they are or can become, and the racism that leads Israel and the U.S. media to see Palestinians as no more than "cows and donkeys" – or terrorists.
“They think there is one man in Gaza with a long beard and he is saying
these things,” said Reem Abu Jaber, who runs the Qattan Center for the Child, referring to an extremist. “He is not
me...Tell people to come and see my real face, not a media face.”
