Scamming Gazans: How Low Can You Go?

Advertised as good investments for ordinary Gazans, the tunnels to Egypt that began as smuggling routes and became a lifeline for a people under siege have now cost them up to hundreds of millions of dollars in a massive scam. Sometimes, one despairs for the species.

"The tunnels are the worst thing that ever happened to Gaza," says
Jawad Tawfiq. "It has poisoned it. It has turned Gaza into a prison economy.
And for what? For chocolate and bicycles."
