A couple of new biographies of I.F. Stone, "a radical who happened to be a
journalist and who thought that the mission of journalism was to nudge
the arc of the universe a bit further in the direction of justice." A peddler's son and college dropout, Stone was at various times a Socialist, fellow traveler, radical and liberal who once famously chewed out a Phil Ochs' anti-liberal song by noting he'd "seen snot-nosed Marxist-Leninists come and go."
