Insane, Idiotic and Offensive to All Our Ancestors, Too

Can the fear-mongering and hysteria over the threat posed by Guantanamo detainees on, gasp, American soil get ratcheted up any higher? From Harry Reid to FBI head Robert Mueller, the scary guys just keep getting scarier. (Speaking of which: can anyone truly argue that our Super-Max prisons aren't bad-ass enough to hold these guys, many of whom were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time?) Now good ole Texas Rep. Lamar Smith has topped them all.

"No
good purpose is served by allowing known terrorists...to come to the U.S. and live among us," he said.
"Guantanamo Bay was never meant to be an Ellis Island."
