On the anniversary of the printing of the first book – the Diamond Sutra, a Buddhist scripture, in 868 – a suggested reading list for progressives ranges from standards like Marx, Engels, Fanon to the more obscure (for some of us) "The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists" by Robert Tressell, dubbed "one of the finest novels ever written about working-class life."
