Thinking globally and acting locally, fifteen American mayors have taken steps to green their cities both large (New York and Chicago) and small (Greensburg, Kansas, pop. 850) with bike trails, light rails, wind turbines, plastic bag bans and a host of other modest but effective projects. The apparent winner is Gavin Newsom of San Francisco, deemed "too green to believe."
