With expenses rising, resources shrinking, and over 1.5 billion people online
around the world, scientists warn that Internet companies may need to rein in energy consumption that's now growing by more than 10% a year. Otherwise, they say, a perfect technological and environmental storm may be brewing.

Google spent over $2 billion last year to reduce its footprint, said Urs Holzle, "but the power bill is going up."
