Doing Our Job

The news
of a discredited 2007 ABC news report that likely tilted the torture
debate, feeding a public perception that waterboarding was what one
journalist called “right and certainly defensible,” underlines the
responsiblity of journalists to get it right. The media's failure to
ask hard questions in the build-up to the invasion of Iraq was
shameful; the least we can do now is press for accountability on
torture.
