Luddite Redux Dept: A mere 125 years and a day after the invention of the telephone, Facebook has launched an Arabic and Hebrew version, aligned right to left as it must be and boasting – no idea how they do it – a mechanism to render accurate gender-sensitive verbs. Now Arabic, spoken by 250 million people, and Hebrew, by 7 million, will be available from a drop-down menu. Currently, Facebook exists in 40
languages; 60 more are in development. The possibilities – for politics, romance, business, jokes, perhaps even peace – are endless, and unimaginable to some of us, though we're working on it.

This is the world we live in. This is the world we cover.

Because of people like you, another world is possible. There are many battles to be won, but we will battle them together—all of us. Common Dreams is not your normal news site. We don't survive on clicks. We don't want advertising dollars. We want the world to be a better place. But we can't do it alone. It doesn't work that way. We need you. If you can help today—because every gift of every size matters—please do. Without Your Support We Simply Don't Exist.
