Why Al Franken Should NOT Be Riding Private Planes
The tragic and suspicious death of Karl Rove's election thief in chief should send a clear message to Al Franken and other key liberals: don't be riding in any small private planes. Death by air crash now seems to be the favored means of ridding the Rovian right of troublesome characters.

GM Must Re-Make the Mass Transit System it Murdered
Bail out General Motors? The people who murdered our mass transit system? First let them remake what they destroyed. GM responded to the 1970s gas crisis by handing over the American market to energy-efficient Toyota and Honda. GM met the rise of the hybrids with "light trucks." GM built a small electric car, leased a pilot fleet to consumers who loved it, and then forcibly confiscated and trashed them all.

GOP Attacks on American Voters Turn Desperate, Ugly and Dangerous
The GOP assault on American voters has hit full stride as the economy and John McCain tank in synch. With just over three weeks until election day, the Republicans have mounted an all-out attack against newly registered voters and the organizations working to sign them up. As many as 75% of these new voters are expected to vote Democratic, but the attacks have also spread to long-established voters as well. Recent calculations show more than a million more newly registered Democrats in Ohio than Republicans.

Be A Poll Worker and Save American Democracy
We are constantly being asked: "What can we do to stop the 2008 election from being stolen?" Because we broke many of the major stories surrounding the theft of the 2004 election in Ohio (and because after four years it is abundantly clear that election most definitely was stolen) the flow of inquiries is heartfelt and non-stop. We cannot afford to have this happen again on November 4. There is a simple answer for what you can do: be a poll worker.

Why Hurricane Ike Demands Paper Ballots on November 4
Hurricane Ike has made it clear that paper ballots must be made available for all voters in Ohio and throughout the nation on November 4. Ike has blown all the way up into the Great Lakes region with devastating impact. Power has been knocked out and airports shut by gale-force winds up to 78 miles per hour. Days later, hundreds of thousands of Midwesterners remain blacked out, and casualties still mount. Ohio Governor Ted Strickland has declared a state of emergency, with up to 2 million Ohioans still without power.

Ten Ways the McCain/Palin GOP Is Now Stealing the Ohio Vote
The McCain/Palin GOP is already in the process of stealing the Ohio vote, as was done in 2004. Among those at the center of the GOP strategy is Bush Family computer operative Michael Connell, who programmed the key vote counting mechanisms that were used to give George W. Bush his second term. Except for John Kennedy in 1960, no candidate since 1856 (James Buchanan) has won the White House without carrying the Buckeye State. No Republican has ever done it.

How an Unwanted Guardianship Cost a Firefighter His Freedom and His Fortune
Norman Baker is an American hero who has been detained against his will for more than three years. His "crime": owning too much property. His sentence: a court-appointed guardianship on the brink of costing him everything he spent his life building. His rights in this case: virtually none, significantly less in many ways than an actual law-breaking criminal. His future if this continues: long-term de facto imprisonment, followed by abject poverty, if he has anything left at all.

Will Congress Plunge Us (Again) into the Nuke Power Abyss?
Congress stands at the brink of the global-warmed nuclear powered abyss. Again. In a victory for green power, a massive grassroots/internet campaign forced removal from the national Energy Bill of blank check loan guarantees to build atomic reactors. But as you read this, House and Senate Democrats and Republicans are negotiating the 2008 Omnibus Appropriations Bill.
