Thirteen Ways Government Tracks Us
Privacy is eroding fast as technology offers government increasing ways to track and spy on citizens. The Washington Post reported there are 3,984 federal, state and local organizations working on domestic counterterrorism. Most collect information on people in the US. Here are thirteen examples of how some of the biggest government agencies and programs track people.
One. The National Security Agency (NSA) collects hundreds of millions of emails, texts and phone calls every day and has the ability to collect and sift through billions more. WIRED just reported NSA is building an immense new data center which will intercept, analyze and store even more electronic communications from satellites and cables across the nation and the world. Though NSA is not supposed to focus on US citizens, it does.
Two. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) National Security Branch Analysis Center (NSAC) has more than 1.5 billion government and private sector records about US citizens collected from commercial databases, government information, and criminal probes.
Three. The American Civil Liberties Union and the New York Times recently reported that cellphones of private individuals in the US are being tracked without warrants by state and local law enforcement all across the country. With more than 300 million cellphones in the US connected to more than 200,000 cell phone towers, cellphone tracking software can pinpoint the location of a phone and document the places the cellphone user visits over the course of a day, week, month or longer.
Four. More than 62 million people in the US have their fingerprints on file with the FBI, state and local governments. This system, called the Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System (IAFIS), shares information with 43 states and 5 federal agencies. This system conducts more than 168,000 checks each day.
Five. Over 126 million people have their fingerprints, photographs and biographical information accessible on the US Department of Homeland Security Automated Biometric Identification System (IDENT). This system conducts about 250,000 biometric transactions each day. The goal of this system is to provide information for national security, law enforcement, immigration, intelligence and other Homeland Security Functions.
Six. More than 110 million people have their visas and more than 90 million have their photographs entered into the US Department of State Consular Consolidated Database (CCD). This system grows by adding about 35,000 people a day. This system serves as a gateway to the Department of State Facial Recognition system, IDENT and IAFSIS.
Seven. DNA profiles on more than 10 million people are available in the FBI coordinated Combined DNA index System (CODIS) National DNA Index.
Eight. Information on more than 2 million people is kept in the Intelligence Community Security Clearance Repository, commonly known as Scattered Castles. Most of the people in this database are employees of the Department of Defense (DOD) and other intelligence agencies.
Nine. The DOD also has an automated biometric identification system (ABIS) to support military operations overseas. This database incorporates fingerprint, palm print, face and iris matching on 6 million people and is adding 20,000 more people each day.
Ten. Information on over 740,000 people is included in the Terrorist Identities Datamart Environment (TIDE) of the National Counterterrorism Center. TIDE is the US government central repository of information on international terrorist identities. The government says that less than 2 percent of the people on file are US citizens or legal permanent residents. They were just given permission to keep their non-terrorism information on US citizens for a period of five years, up from 180 days.
Eleven. Tens of thousands of people are subjects of facial recognition software. The FBI has been working with North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles and other state and local law enforcement on facial recognition software in a project called “Face Mask.” For example, the FBI has provided thousands of photos and names to the North Carolina DMV which runs those against their photos of North Carolina drivers. The Maricopa Arizona County Sheriff’s Office alone records 9,000 biometric mug shots a month.
Twelve. The FBI operates the Nationwide Suspicious Activity Reporting Initiative (SAR) that collects and analyzes observations or reports of suspicious activities by local law enforcement. With over 160,000 suspicious activity files, SAR stores the profiles of tens of thousands of Americans and legal residents who are not accused of any crime but who are alleged to have acted suspiciously.
Thirteen. The FBI admits it has about 3,000 GPS tracking devices on cars of unsuspecting people in the US right now, even after the US Supreme Court decision authorizing these only after a warrant for probable cause has been issued.

The Future
The technology for tracking and identifying people is exploding as is the government appetite for it.
Soon, police everywhere will be equipped with handheld devices to collect fingerprint, face, iris and even DNA information on the spot and have it instantly sent to national databases for comparison and storage.
Bloomberg News reports the newest surveillance products “can also secretly activate laptop webcams or microphones on mobile devices,” change the contents of written emails mid-transmission, and use voice recognition to scan phone networks.
The advanced technology of the war on terrorism, combined with deferential courts and legislators, have endangered both the right to privacy and the right of people to be free from government snooping and tracking. Only the people can stop this.

Show AllHoodies, wide-brimmed hats, large sunglasses and facial outline distorting make-up application are going to be very popular very soon.
Ditch the cell phone, deal only in cash, keep minimal cash in a bank account (if you have to have one), direct face to face conversation in infiltrator-detecting jargon and slang (say 'shiboleth'. Those who understand will get the reference.), hand/sign language, etc.
Better yet: BRING DOWN THE SYSTEM!
How bout everyone carry A can of quick dry, black spray paint with them to make shady lenses and close the curtains on these invaders of our privacy...
If anyone would have witnessed any of this shit back in the 60s they either would not believe it or there would have been massive rebellion...This shit just kind of grew on us like some creepy mold!!! Laptops and cell phones seemed like such A wonderful thing-What A price to pay!!!
Two points:
1) Much of this technology was available at nineeleven. Think about that.
2) All of this invasive, "nowhere-to-hide" massive spying technology, and yet, the FIRE (Finance Insurance Real Estate) and Wall Street sectors, where blatant, in-your-face, can't ignore it any longer Fraud is out of control, is so too INCREASING at breakneck speed as well. Hmm....
Yes...
And I wonder how much of that is outsourced -- private corporations doing the work and/or storing the data for the government.
The thought of the corporate cabal using this against citizens scares me even more than the thought of the government using it.
At least theoretically we can effect change in the government. We have absolutely no wherewithal to create change if the corporations are running the show.
The majority of it. It's a high growth industry.

14- shows on TV show the above 13 regularly to de-sensitize the sheep.
NCIS LA reran the show about a terrorist hijacking a drone and targeting a school.
Of course it would be a 'terrorist' act against the US.
But the US can use them all over the world cuz WE are at war and THEY are attacking our "freedoms".
"The TERRORISTS are who WE say they are! Not as WE ACT!!!!!!"
I'd really appreciate sourcing on all of these figures.
You don't know how to use a library or an Internet search engine?
It is the responsibility of the person making the assertion, allegation or accusation to produce the citations that support it.
It's the responsibility of the individual to educate themselves, to explore differing and often confrontational views, in an effort to engage in actual thinking, instead of becoming a slave to propaganda and cognitive dissonance.
But that's beyond your pay grade, isn't it?
You have a hard time maintaining civility?
When you're in a discussion and you make assertions, allegations, or accusations in that conversation, it's YOUR responsibility to cite support, to show where your information comes from.
If you say the moon is a Vulcan spaceship, it's not on others to debunk that. It's on YOU to cite your sources to support the assertion.
Now, let's see if you can reply 1) relevantly, and 2) civilly.
1) I frequently do cite, and provide links. That are ignored by people like you.
2) What the hell does that have to do with the conversation?
3) I just did.
4) Idiots and willing tools like you deserve the scorn and ridicule they earn.
derp
No it is not. This person is a reporter and this NOT a Court of law. An article on the web is not a textbook.
If a person is going to write on Global warming I do not need nor expect citations of every report written. Read a newspaer then tell me how many articles have "Citations" inside the article.
Articles on the web, blogposts, comments on sites such as this, and even conversation with friends do require that one have some backup, some solid sources for assertions and opinions. It's the responsible mature way to communicate; then disagreements are more likely to become educational instead of emotional and argumentative. Many of our favorite and most relied-upon writers on CD and elsewhere offer pieces liberally sprinkled with linkage to sources and corroborating material. Ignorance is not bliss.
Reporters are ALways required to have citations for their sources. They don't always include them in articles, AND ... whenever you see "so-and-so said" THAT's a citation.
"According to ... " THAT's a citation.
"A highly placed government official ... " THAT's a citation.
"So-and-so reported finding ... " that's an attribution.
It has nothing to do with courts of law.
Again ... if I say the sky is actually an inverted bowl, is it up to you to prove it's not, or is it up to me to show you why I say that?
"I think ... " is a citation, as is "I believe ... " and people are entitled to ask you, "Why?"
You don't ALWAYS have to provide such citations. Only if someone asks you and you're interested in "credibility."
I can link you to tens of thousands of articles that do not have citations. Do a bit of reading.
You yourself admit "they do not always put them into articles" yet somehow expect this author to have done so.
He does CITE articles in the New York times and elsewhere.
This is not a website where people who write articles are EXPECTED to respond to you. You have the mans email go ahead and ASK. He includes it in the article.
Raed any daily newspaer. Many of the Articles are printed in multiple papers by using a press service like AP. A letter to the editor in some local paper in Des Moines that might have carried the article demanding citations is not going to get a response.
I didn't "expect" anything. I responded to a remark made by someone else and was in a conversation WITH someone else and YOU entered the conversation.
The original comment was by someone simply declaring that they'd like to see the citations for the figures in the article.
Someone replied that the person should look up the information. I said it's the job of the person making the assertions to provide the support.
That is absolutely true of reporters. It is a reporters JOB to source figures presented as fact.
People in these threads can be asked to cite sources. They don't have to. Others can reach conclusions about their veracity based on those sources ... or their failure to provide them.
You have a nice day, now ...
"I was sitting in an old chair on my front porch, eating my usual breakfast - an egg and suasage burrito and a bottle of beer, dressed in my skivvies and an old pair of unlaced boots. Storm clouds were gathering, rolling over the mountains from the north, as dark and ominous as all the bad news saved up since the world began. A long line of headlights snaked its way down the mountain - a convoy. How the hell did the bastards find me? I went back in the house and gathered my guns."
Welcome to the world of Big Brother, where privacy is extinct, where our lives are controled by a neo-fascist elite consisting of government, corporations, and religious institutions. A world where public institutions are being sold off to the highest bidder, where public schools are allowed to die while our taxes fund for-profit charter schools - many being operated by religious orginizations, where social security and medicare are replaced with insurance vouchers, where over a hundred billion tax dollars a year are spent on private armies and private intelligence agencies, where billions are spent on airport screening machines whose use is mandated by congress and are built by corporations headed by former heads of Homeland Security, and where church and state collude to deny women the right to contraception. If you're not afraid, you're not paying attention.
I'm not afraid.
I'm PISSED-OFF!
It sounds like you know how to do breakfast.
Breakfast burrito and beer have all the necessary ingredients for human survival; fat, sugar and protein. In a pinch, I make do with a Hershey peanut butter cup and a shot of tequila.
I am afraid, and wondering what is next? I believe that "something big is coming" and it's not the supposed End of the World-Mayans 2012 prediction either. I truly believe that the IMF, the Trilateral Commission, the Bilderberg Group (a.k.a. the Rothchilds and Rockefellers) and other groups; some secret -are planning to take this country DOWN, bankrupt us by making our dollar worthless, so they can instil a One World currency. This will probable happen sometime after Obama gets re elected, as he probably will
As Betty Davis once said."fasten your seat belts, it's going to be a bumpy night".
And oh by they way-DHS won't explain its order of 450 million hollow point bullets...Why? Google search this or look on RT News-Is is for target practice or because of over population, or because they are expecting massive protests soon when they tank the economy? Wither way, we are screwed!
Uncle Sam Buys A Flash Drive Dept: The new data center in Utah is the headstone for the national security state. The level of gathering is insane, but it's a dead end. We need to not lose our wits over this. The G may have a big budget, but lacks the talent of the hacker community. Watch for some epic spoofs of this new data collection effort.
And god help NSA if dissidents revert to primitive tech; 1950's radar sets are what neutralized stealth, so they'll have a nervous breakdown if pencil and paper makes a comeback (meatspace messengers!). Will the FBI bust carrier pigeon hobbyists for running afowl of zookeeping laws? Renegade doves will hash the system.
Q: as global warming intensifies, what sort of idiot would site a massive heat generator out in the desert?
"And god help NSA if dissidents revert to primitive tech; 1950's radar sets are what neutralized stealth, so they'll have a nervous breakdown if pencil and paper makes a comeback (meatspace messengers!)."
- Why do you think the US had such a hard time tracking 'Bin Laden' and others. They knew their cell and sat phones were being intercepted. As a neat idea if you still wanted to transfer computer files, you might try this: http://wiki.opencaching.us/index.php/Dead_Drop_Caches
"Q: as global warming intensifies, what sort of idiot would site a massive heat generator out in the desert?"
- A: A Government contractor with deep ties to the industrial HVAC industry.
The author says, "Only the people can stop this." Question: Exactly How would that be done/possible?
Does government track itself?
Yes it does. And this new surveillance state has the potential to make Water Gate look like a child's 'coffee can and string telephone' compared to the newest computerized communications.
It almost begs the question; how can any political group (Green Party? Progressives? Libertarians? Independents? Others?) make a run for office without potentially being completely watched, monitored, pre-empted, and out maneuvered via surveillance by the ruling party? But you're a smart reader here ezeflyer... I'm sure you knew this already.
Good article!
oh, its crazy out there. i'm a little old busy-body retired lady and even i got 'tracked'. i ended up having an ambush meeting with a guy from ATF. but it was ok. we just had chinese food while he tried to decide whether i was involved in illegal gun deals in mexico. i guess he decided i wasnt the type. i dont know what caused his interest in me. i dont even own a gun or know how to shoot. but i do go everywhere on the web, from the tea party to the taliban.
mostly, i resent his deceit in lying about who he was at first and hijacking me. it was only after we were driving to the restaurant in his car that he sprang the ATF stuff. or he might have said the DoJ at first. i was totally confused and had no idea what he was talking about at the beginning.
oh well. its a stupid waste of money for them to be watching and listening in to everybody. i've lost all respect for the usa gov and i dont care if they go broke and belly up. but i think with that web cam thing, i might start changing my clothes in the closet.
i sd just erase this but i'm going to click save
Thanks for clicking save and not erase. I've been tracked too. Had strange people mention details from private phone conversations. Strange people show up at my work and ask what I'm up to. People following me.... everything. It is a big waste of money and time for them- no wonder they are going broke. Yet they couldn't follow and catch the 19 hijackers before 9/11... even when some good FBI agents were raising the alarm (or maybe senior decision makers chose not to follow them so they could get their Project for a New American Century catalizing event.. ?). I'm just a college educated kid from family who helped build this country. And my civic responsibility is to speak my mind to help protect whatever democracy we might have left- even if that means criticising those who we expect to 'protect' it. This ain't the country of our fathers anymore.
We are in a Fascist state of affairs now, and if we don't REALLY stop this assault, then it will be just like in Nazi Germany, with the Gestapo knocking on your doors in the middle of the night, stripping your clothes off and then shooting you. The Elite, Oligarchs, Trilateral Commission, the Bilderberg Group, the Council on Foreign Relations and others are watching and waiting to see what "we-the people" will tolerate, before there is total upheaval in the USA. We have a Secretary of Defense who recently told Congress that he and the President only answer to NATO and the U.N. when it comes to war, and then they will let congress know what they are doing. Really? This goes against the War Powers Act and our Constitution of the United States of America.

Dr. Lawrence Britt has examined the fascist regimes of Hitler (Germany), Mussolini (Italy), Franco (Spain), Suharto (Indonesia) and several Latin American regimes. Britt found 14 defining characteristics common to each:
**See if you can find what applies to the United States of America**
1. Powerful and Continuing Nationalism - Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of patriotic mottos, slogans, symbols, songs, and other paraphernalia. Flags are seen everywhere, as are flag symbols on clothing and in public displays.
********************************************************************************************
2. Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights - Because of fear of enemies and the need for security, the people in fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain cases because of "need." The people tend to look the other way or even approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, long incarcerations of prisoners, etc.
********************************************************************************************
3. Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause - The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: racial , ethnic or religious minorities; liberals; communists; socialists, terrorists, etc.
********************************************************************************************
4. Supremacy of the Military - Even when there are widespread
domestic problems, the military is given a disproportionate amount of government funding, and the domestic agenda is neglected. Soldiers and military service are glamorized.
********************************************************************************************
5. Rampant Sexism - The governments of fascist nations tend to be almost exclusively male-dominated. Under fascist regimes, traditional gender roles are made more rigid. Divorce, abortion and homosexuality are suppressed and the state is represented as the ultimate guardian of the family institution.
*******************************************************************************************
6. Controlled Mass Media - Sometimes to media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation, or sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Censorship, especially in war time, is very common.
*********************************************************************************************
7. Obsession with National Security - Fear is used as a motivational tool by the government over the masses.
********************************************************************************************
8. Religion and Government are Intertwined - Governments in fascist nations tend to use the most common religion in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion. Religious rhetoric and terminology is common from government leaders, even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed to the government's policies or actions.
*********************************************************************************************
9. Corporate Power is Protected - The industrial and business aristocracy of a fascist nation often are the ones who put the government leaders into power, creating a mutually beneficial business/government relationship and power elite.
***************************************************************************************************
10. Labor Power is Suppressed - Because the organizing power of labor is the only real threat to a fascist government, labor unions are either eliminated entirely, or are severely suppressed.
********************************************************************************************
11. Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts - Fascist nations tend to promote and tolerate open hostility to higher education, and academia. It is not uncommon for professors and other academics to be censored or even arrested. Free expression in the arts and letters is openly attacked.
*********************************************************************************************
12. Obsession with Crime and Punishment - Under fascist regimes, the police are given almost limitless power to enforce laws. The people are often willing to overlook police abuses and even forego civil liberties in the name of patriotism. There is often a national police force with virtually unlimited power in fascist nations.
********************************************************************************************
13. Rampant Cronyism and Corruption - Fascist regimes almost always are governed by groups of friends and associates who appoint each other to government positions and use governmental power and authority to protect their friends from accountability. It is not uncommon in fascist regimes for national resources and even treasures to be appropriated or even outright stolen by government leaders.
********************************************************************************************
14. Fraudulent Elections - Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other times elections are manipulated by smear campaigns against or even assassination of opposition candidates, use of legislation to control voting numbers or political district boundaries, and manipulation of the media. Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or control elections.
********************************************************************************************
OK, now do you believe me????
There's no doubt about it. I mean, the entire phony 'war on(OF) terror,' while ostensibly false in its stated purpose (and trigger event, 9/11), is actually a very real war being waged against democracy and humanity by the corporate-state nexus ...and not only are they screwing humanity over (on numerous levels), the people, organizations and corporations comprising the phony $ecurity machinations are making $ hand over fist by doing so. However, this is brainwashed USA, so never underestimate the power of denial.
The Obots don't believe you.
Encourage everyone to mention trigger words like terrorism, bomb etc. in their phone calls and overwhelm the bastards with information.
Not a bad idea!
And let's not forget #14: Stool samples, carefully examined and shared with Scotland Yard and other security agencies worldwide. It's for our own safety and the banner of freedom we all fly. Support the Poop!
Gentlemen what we want is a better, safe, progressive, ethical hence promising world. It is not going to be easy. We all must sacrifice and that might mean: seeking to find, asking to get answers and knocking continuously to get it all open. We carry crosses individually, perhaps in interest of the collectives and in that heavily misunderstood and misinterpreted as well as mismanaged: our plight as beings in this short journey into earthly experience! For anyone that it might please to give some thought to, I venture to bet that there is a whole life awaiting!
We want a new world, not yet born partly unhelped because we are lost on how to sense and appreciate what that needs to take. And yet, in the words of Dr. Martin Luther King spread for right and left ears, in the hope that senses would be made of, He was able to say "I see a light in the tunnel, but I might not get there with you (this time)! A sentence of FAITH, and "faith" is primary in Obama and all of what appear to be his endeavours - perfect though not all, yet in my mind a phenomenal step to renew the dynamism of CHANGE as we understand in historical layers' contexts.
All 13 counts of the ways citizens and peoples are tracked by governments in and out, and "fascist accounts of "ddills": a funny name] are not just too new, but they tell who we are still......"offsetters of our progress": beings unable to prove that they learn and worst still unable to see the smallest of lights of those wholeheartedly and lovingly standing out tall against odds to make the very difference searched for, asked for and knocked to be opened. We are masters of ironies and jokes....of-course, all work and no play, will make Jack a dull boy. That is, the latter do brighten-up, if sentimentality saps not "reason" in the end! The world we shape with knowledge outputs and creation, need not be our downfall, which is a sign of respect for pluralism and freedom. But many fear where the values and practices might be blind of "discrimination" for obvvious reasons of a more managable "Sum": that in which political wars about "size of the state" ought not to be an issue if all play to the rule and understand issue of "whose rule" rightly, pragmatically and ethically!
Rise of technology, money, like everything else...for they were given "free" are meant to be managed and used but they are turned into what to worship. No wonder everything else is infected - led by our political ineptness. Now with technology we harass, psychically torment, go to war and kill and with money and beliefs in our smartness we cheat, manipulate, turn greedy and cripple our system of trust and hope, and so more and more render our individual as well as collective existence increasingly vulnerable. Then comes the crocodile tears, hate, jealousies and immoralities, religious pretences, etc. More chaos for the world we want to create and are given the key and power to do so but we misuse. Rough hands of technology are all contributed to by us all. Individuals, like the government is a part, relatively so by their vocations, roles, structures, etc. Maybe may brothers and sisters seeing this will not think they are my friends and yet for me they are! It took me time to develop into this and surely temptations are hard to revert to the old.....what we must resist if actually change is what we want ----- a way out of aspects of the woes, which even if all cannot be removed, some should be if well guided by stocks of our lessons and experiences. Mark you, GUIDE is a key word, love democracy and freedom but do not let yourself be confused by the power of the word!
We construct our world! But let us be functionally, sustainably and truly oriented for that purpose. What now becomes perenial problems facing us all internally and externally are yours, mine and of structural making. Resposnsibility is shared. No way to push it on others no matter how relatively logical that too is, if you have to think that the "harlots and the poor might get into Heaven first", because the structural functional dimension and roles thereon, might be surprisingly interpreted or judged in ways beating our human senses! We simply have to be careful, not to allow complacency consume or soak our sense of oneness in diversity and similiarities in the massive differences, for providence might be complex to decieve and manipulate, difficult as that also is for man to comprehend. Work more therefore on making all comprehensible with the generous gifts in our ways in the interest of us and all!

The government tracking me is not intimidating because I always assumed everyone can hear anything I say on a phone of on my desktop. If you want privacy, write a letter. WE gave up privacy for expediency and convenience when you stepped into the digital age.
This just doesn't threaten me. If they collect information on my the jokes on them cause I don't care. I have nothing to hide.
Thanks Claudia L for your deep contribution to a free society, typical right wing apologies... "I have nothing to hide".
As long as no unjust laws are ever made that single out something normal that you do, then you're right you have nothing to hide. And why give a damn if Bush, or Obama, or Sarkozy, or Cameron, or Jiabao, or Saddam, or Stalin, or Hitler can turn on the microphone in your cell phone and ease drop, you're probably just at a PTA meeting, not a PETA meeting! You afterall have nothing to hide.
Of course there are no bad apples in government either... so why worry if they can collect every last detail of your life? You probably have no ambitions to ever run for office. So why worry if the incumbent party has the power to spy on you, your campaign, and all of your private communications related and unrelated to any possible run for office? You, especially, have nothing to hide!
Or even if you were living 230 years ago during America's revolutionary times... when the British troops would come around to the farm house and turn everything upside down looking for guns, or bullets, or pro american pamphlets... you Claudia L would gladdy open the door and poor the contents of all your drawers onto the floor for them to search because as a good British tax paying subject, you have nothing to hide!
You even welcome the idea of opening your bedroom door to either big or small government. Sure, that government employee you met at a party lives nearby and works for something like Homeland Security (he wouldn't say of course), but you don't mind if he snoops and gossips a bit about your personal business with other people, employers, business competitors, family, in laws, persons who may be suing you, government institutions, etc., you have nothing to hide!
"Come on in! Take a photo! Meet my husband! Use my computer! Make yourself at home. No, my teenage son looked that political stuff up on the internet. Me, I have nothing to hide!"
When the Nazis came for the communists,
I remained silent;
I was not a communist..
When they locked up the social democrats,
I remained silent;
I was not a social democrat.
When they came for the trade unionists,
I did not speak out;
I was not a trade unionist.
When they came for the Jews,
I didn't speak up,
because I wasn't a Jew.
When they came for me,
there was no-one left
to speak out.

In places like Liverpool and some of the other big cities in England there are street cameras just about everywhere. The local youth in these places often have themselves a bit of fun by pretending to have a big fight, or stage some other such "unlawful" activity, and then time how long it takes for the cops to turn up. Apparently it is so commonplace in some areas that the cops don't bother any more. Another "game" they play is to go to a police station and take note of the officers' car number plates. They then make counterfeit copies and attach them to stolen cars which they then drive through fixed speed cameras at high speed...several times. All of which goes to show that whatever technology these agencies employ, people will find a way to undermine it.
Could you make simple masks by printing faces on paper and wear them on the street, or maybe just print them out life sized and carry them like posters?
Do you think a video camera picking up some "Wanted" person's face might light up the facial recognition programs and make for some interesting "attendance" on the street?
Do you have your equivalent of a "Most Wanted" list?
What do you suppose would happen if the facial recognition programs started picking up those faces off the streets?
I was just wonderin'.

Ladies, if you value your privacy and civil liberties, join the ACLU!
In his 1992 book, Visions of Liberty, former Executive Director of the ACLU, Ira Glasser writes:
"The use of wiretapping and electronic eavesdropping emerged during the Prohibition era. Roy Olmstead was a suspected bootlegger whom the government wished to search. It placed taps in the basement of his office building and on wires in the streets near his home. No physical entry into his office or home took place. Olmstead was convicted entirely on the basis of evidence from the wiretaps.
"In his appeal to the Supreme Court, Olmstead argued that the taps were a search conducted without a warrant and without probable cause, and that the evidence seized against him should have been excluded because it was illegally gathered. He also argued that his Fifth Amendment right not to be a witness against himself was violated.
"By a 5-4 vote, the Court rejected his arguments and upheld the government's power to wiretap without limit and without any Fourth Amendment restrictions, on the grounds that no actual physical intrusion had taken place.
"Olmstead's Fifth Amendment claim was also dismissed on the grounds that he had not been compelled to talk on the telephone, but had done so voluntarily.
"Thus the Court upheld the government's power to do by trickery and surreptitious means what it was not permitted to do honestly and openly.
"It wasn't until 1967, in a similar case involving gambling, that the Court overruled the Olmstead decision by an 8-1 margin and recognized that the Fourth Amendment applied to wiretapping and electronic surveillance.
"The other major use of electronic eavesdropping has been to punish political dissent. For decades, former FBI director J. Edgar Hoover used wiretaps and other electronic devices to spy on political figures and citizens not yet suspected of having committed a crime. He built vast dossiers on their political activities and personal lives. Special units of local police called 'Red Squads' did the same.
"Nor has electronic surveillance been the only source of our loss of privacy. The widespread use of urine-testing in employment to see whether people may have been using illegal substances violates the rights of many innocent people.
"Urine-testing programs are usually not restricted to those who show evidence of impaired job performance that may be due to the use of drugs. These tests are normally administered randomly. Without any probable cause for search, this is a violation of the Fourth Amendment.
"Many of these random tests have been struck down by the courts, where the government is the employer. But some have been upheld. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia (hardly a Constitutional liberal!), denounced them as 'an immolation of privacy and human dignity in symbolic opposition to drug use.'"
In January 2006, on the eve of the West Coast Walk For Life in San Francisco, CA, Carol Crossed of Democrats For Life (kind enough to write the foreword to my own book, The Liberal Case Against Abortion) spoke optimistically of Roe v. Wade being overturned.
When I asked her if Roe could be overturned without Griswold v. Connecticut (the 1965 Supreme Court decision which guarantees a right to marital privacy regarding the practice of contraception) being overturned as well, Carol froze, and couldn't answer the question!
Although this was well before the scandals involving Republican poltiicans David Vitter and Larry Craig, I would have preferred it if Carol had said:
"You're right. Only a pervert watches or eavesdrops when others pee, defecate, copulate, masturbate, etc. It's wrong to put people under surveillance without their knowledge or consent. Democrats For Life will never resort to draconian tactics to protect prenatal life."

ACLU? They love to protect your right to yell and scream about anything you want, but when it comes to actually doing something about what you're yelling & screaming about (the 14 Amendment) - EQUAL PROTECTION UNDER THE LAW the ACLU does nothing. They protect the rights of citizens of other countries over our own citizens. They should change their name to Foreign Civil Liberty Union (FCLU).
The author fails to mention that everyone who receives food stamps has to submit to a photo and fingerprinting every 90 days. That was about 45 million people the last time I checked.
Our secret agencies were caught spying on, poisoning, experimenting with and harassing people to their deaths in the 1960s and 1970s. Projects like Mockingbird, Monarch (literal mind control) and COINTELPRO were exposed by the Church Commission in the 1970s. Despite making a promise to cease surveillance-based PsyOps against innocent Americans, you would have to be naive to think anything has stopped. In fact, advances in technology (referred to in this article) make complete 24-7 surveillance and tracking of each of us quite easy. Each of us will have given the government a DNA sample at some time in the near future, and credible experts in high-tech weaponry believe your DNA can be used to identify you to a satellite based "non-lethal" weapons system that can aim radiation at you to cause sleep deprivation, extreme fatigue, convulsions, and who knows what else. Now is the time to pay attention, and be a little more open minded, about the claims of those who say they already have been targeted and "anonymously" electronically harassed this way. Google "organized stalking" and "electronic harassment" and open your eyes to the Beast. Our government seems to be testing repression/harassment protocols that could be used to demobilize millions of citizens at the command of the cabal running the show. You don't know about this because a tiny sampling of us are the canaries in the coal mine. My partner and I appear to be lab rats for these technologies, and please believe me when I confirm that there are very, very sick, sadistic minds running these ops. Coming to a street near you... maybe yours? I think so.
