If You Want to Fight Cancer, Turn Those Pink Ribbons Green
I'm going to make a confession. I never could stand those pink ribbons. I've never done a "Walk for the Cure" or bought daffodils for cancer victims or even picked a cancer-cure-themed postage stamp.
I'm glad to hear that the Komen Foundation has bowed to pressure and is restoring funding to Planned Parenthood, a worthwhile organization if there ever was one.
But in general, the idea of putting the energy and effort of well-meaning citizens behind "the search for a cure for cancer" just irritates me, because let's face it, we know what causes cancer, and therefore we can do better than cure it, we can prevent it! Maybe not 100%, but we can take it back to the modest rates that previous generations of human beings enjoyed.
For my grandparents' generation, a diagnosis of cancer was frightening because it was so often a death sentence, but it was rare. Not one of my four grandparents came down with cancer, and I don't believe their parents did either. This isn't due to some genetic serendipity, it's just a fact that cancer rates in the first half of the 20th century (and every century before that) were way lower than they are now.
Cancer rates are skyrocketing now thanks to the environmental toxins that humans have introduced into our air, soil and water, and thus our agricultural crops, drinking water and the very air we breathe. Rachel Carson saw the effects of DDT on birds, and gave the warning just before she succumbed to cancer.
We may have removed DDT from the US market, but it's still being used in other countries, and here it has been replaced by a whole host of alphabet-soup chemicals, each one more potent and carcinogenic than the last.
If you really want to make a difference in the war against cancer, forget about those ridiculous pink ribbons. Use the power of your wallet and your ballot to insist that the government step up and do its job in regulating the industrial agriculture sector.
Or better yet, let's allow the specter of industrial agriculture to fade away into the dustbin of the 20th century, and start a real "green revolution," dedicated to the health and well-being of our planet and all her denizens.
What color is your ribbon? Mine is green.

Show AllThe cause is already known. Cancer is failure of the immune system and if you live long enough and don't die of something else first, genetics and cell longevity will guarantee you die of cancer.
That said you can, by diet alone, prevent, control and in some cases reverse premature diseases like cancer. Eliminate type II diabetes. No drugs, no surgery, no expensive alternative medicine. The answer is simply a whole plant/fruit/nuts based diet and you can eat as much as you like of whatever you like (ensure you get a balance of the required amino acids, - plus a tiny amount of B12 within 3 years of a vegan diet) without gaining any weight and almost always losing weight.

Don't be ridiculous. That would be like saying, instead of sending our boys over to the middle east to bomb those bad-assed terrorists to the stone age, we ought to support the establishment of an environment that doesn't breed terrorists in the first place. TOTAL POPPYCOCK!!
Our bodies make thousands of would-be cancer cells (abnormal cells) every day.
We cannot "cure" cancer, only prevent it by eating organically-grown food and living healthy lives so our immune systems are strong enough to kill the would-be cancers before they can grow.
Where does Komen spend that money for "research?" Does anyone really know?
Some people treat the Komoney as a sort of religion that they don't want to give up. Gives them hope, I guess, but it's like any other religion - mostly hot air and grabbing money from believers.
We don't need ribbons at all. No pink, certainly, and not green or blue or any other color ribbons. We need a sane, life-oriented society where We, the People, make the decisions that affect our habitat and our lives.

You're welcome. As you probably know by now, my distrust of the medical monopoly runs wide and deep.
I see three big cancer stories.
First, cancer is caused by manufacturers selling you carcinogenic products. Cancer was almost an unrecognized illness in the ancient world, as it happened to 1 in 1800 people until about 200 years ago. Outfits like Komen are propped up by some of the very corporations that maybe are taking out your life.
Second, cancer is caused by the world selling you a low-exercise, flabby, tasteless, high-fat, high-stress lifestyle. Our microcommunities should protect us from this awful way of dying by changing the ways that we live.
Third, people are consistently beating terminal cancer. The medical-industrial complex runs the other direction as fast as it possibly can when it hears of these stories. Around thanksgiving we visited a woman who is self-treating an aggressive, metastatized melanoma with nutrition. Her cancer has stopped. She's holding down her job, goes square dancing, the usual life.
Note that I recommend shaving off a simple skin mole, because if shaved off early it's 98% successful with little pain. However, if your doctor says you're at least 95% a dead one so pay in advance sucker, I recommend at least trying the other side of the fence. Also note that I don't recommend nutrition over energy healing over other alternatives. Go do your own research and make your own choices.

YES the Pink ribbon does seem to stand globally for cancer - but the Pink only collects money towards Breast cancer - the Susan G. Komen Foundation does eclipse more lethal, deadly & un-researched cancers which do need research dollars to address survival beyond diagnosis.

So Green for a ribbon is a great choice - but the message needs to get out loud and clear as to why to associate green with this cause - I agree it needs to be - though the same as coming up against the Pink ribbon cancer research business machine, educating folks to the impacts of choices and impacts regarding food, soil, environment and healthy choices is a large mountain.
it needs to be done, but the hike up that mountain needs to be one that is prepared for and had support lines to keep the efforts moving forward. ACTION speaks louder than words.

I am reading "The China Study" by T. Colin Campbell. He believes that animal protein including dairy protein is the cause. I don't know how this explains the low cancer rates we had 100 years ago when we ate a lot of beef and dairy, but it does explain why 3/4 of the world today has very little cancer.
I've been saying as much for years. Go after the sources of cancer instead of trying to close the barn door after the horse is gone. Cancer "curing" is an industry that depends on people getting cancer.
While limiting environmental toxins is a great way to prevent cancers, The Gerson Therapy and other nutritional therapies and therapy centers are actually curing cancer and other chronic illnesses. The documentaries: Dying to Have Known, and Simply Raw: Reversing Diabetes in 30 Days are great places to start.
