British Jealous of America’s Savage Police
A Black Agenda Radio commentary
In the wake of rebellions that spread to much of urban Britain, the ruling Conservative Party government is not only sounding like their racist American cousins, they were at least toying with the idea of importing William Bratton, the former police chief of New York, Los Angeles and Boston, to put the fear of the law into the U.K.’s darker residents. On first examination, it seems counterintuitive that anyone would look to the United States for role models in the criminal justice arena. The U.S. is by far the most violent among the wealthy nations of the world. Gangs are endemic, the U.S. is the drug marketplace of the planet. Guns are everywhere, both legal and illegal. It’s a scary place to live. What could the British possibly find to envy about America, when it comes to law and order?
The United States is the Great Gulag Nation, the planetary prison dungeon, home to 25 percent of its prison inmates. One out of every eight imprisoned persons in the world is a Black American….
Wait a minute! That’s got to be the allure to the white racists in Britain. They are jealous of the absolute savagery of the U.S. criminal justice system’s treatment of Black people. They look with awe on American cops like Bill Bratton whom, they imagine, would punish British Blacks in London, Birmingham, Liverpool and Manchester as he did it America’s big cities.
Not that the Brits aren’t trying to live up to American standards of racist law enforcement. Blacks in the U.K. are 26 times more likely to be stopped and frisked on the streets than whites, and seven times more likely to go to prison. But it’s all in the scale of things. The Americans stop, arrest, and imprison far larger numbers of people, both by percentage and in raw numbers. Whereas 150,000 people were stopped and frisked on all the streets of England and Wales in 2008, nearly 600,000 were stopped in New York City alone. Britain’s total incarcerated population is less than 100,000 people. The U.S. is only five times as large as Britain, but imprisons 24 times as many people: 2.4 million. And, when it comes to shooting Blacks and Latinos down in the street like dogs, nobody beats the American cop, in eagerness to fire his weapon or the number of bullets he’s willing to pump into a Black body.
The Brits, having a “special relationship” with the United States, know all this, but they want to follow in America’s bloody footsteps, anyway. Because, for white racists in Britain, just like their counterparts in the U.S., it’s not about efficient and effective policing, or any civilized notion of justice. It’s about hate. It’s about racial dominance. It’s about keeping Black people in their place.
That’s why the British courts are sending 60 percent of people arrested in the rebellion to jail to await trial, rather than the usual ten percent. That’s why a single mother who accepted the gift of a pair of shorts that turned out to be looted got five months behind bars. And that’s why the prime minister is spouting racist nonsense about the inferior culture of non-whites – especially Blacks – in Britain.
It’s all so very familiar to us on the western side of the Atlantic, in the nation that was built on genocide, slavery and racial supremacy. To the Black people of Britain we say, “Welcome to America.” Welcome to the Terrordome.

Show AllVP, thanks for the lead. Many unis are doing even worse things. Harvard I think is the most corrupt.
Charter schools are ran the same way. Just look in to the money that is behind them. Just another scam by the elites to rich off everyone.
Well, this Brit ain't jealous. And the mother who accepted the pair of shorts has been freed today on appeal, the judge ruling that the original sentence was wholly inappropriate.
Maybe not all the judiciary are so bad after all.

Not just racial dominance, but economic too. Other than that I could not agree more with what the author said in this article. Of course, it's the economic history of oppression that will supply the English with all the tools they need for an attempt to be more barbaric than the USA.
Are you implying that British shop owners should have guns? The rioters didn't have guns. I know one man was shot dead during the riots (I'm not referring to the man whose death at the hands of an armed police officer, and whose death sparked the whole episode), but I'm not convinced that incident was part of the events rather than something that just happened at the same time. Nor did the police use guns (or tear gas, water cannon or plastic baton rounds).
But, more importantly, it was not just black Britons who were rioting. Or receiving stolen goods (the woman Glen Ford uses as an example of judicial racism is white).
As always the Euro's are 25 to 50yrs behind us,,, I have no doubt they'll catch up fast. First shooting a few dozen protesters,, before you know it they'll swoop int to every pub disagreement 50 at a time wraring paddes blues jumsuits that have police on the back no other ID or badge visible just a teflon/alluminum shield and baton, a nine-millimeter at their side! a TASER with plenty of charges to electricute the unwilling ,Oh I forgot the black helmets, and full face masks so they can't be identified by cameras, allowing them to do their business in total ananimity! Just like in the USA! >^^<
Of course they should have guns, every citizen should. Well armed societies are
polite to each other and law abiding. Also when the police are outgunned by the
people they will mind their manners. When the police fear the people you have
liberty, when the people fear the police you have tyranny.

So, the USA is either not well armed, or your argument is full of shit.
Wow, full points on the most ignorant post of the day. Your mum must be so proud of you for encouraging others to kill for property. Grats.
I'm just peeing in my pants to know how you think shop owners should be protecting their property.
Hey, if the Brits were really paying attention, they would've recruited über-goon John Timoney to show 'em how it's done.
But perhaps his Irish pedigree is culturally disqualifying.
Yeah, they are so fast they sometimes are suspected of causing the riots.
Yeah, doughnut riots. I'll take the bearclaw.
The point of the quote is that the British police wish their system was as racist as the one in the US.
The bobbies wish that they too could beat the poor with impunity.
brutality.
The US is by far the most brutal developed nation when it comes to state violence against the poor. The Us has a long history of simply killing tjose who advocate too forcefully for the poor and working classes.
But your comment indicates that you approve of US style "justice?'
I'm glad that Glenn Ford is reporting on the race/police brutality undertones of the recent unpleasantness in Great Britain.
David Cameron's statements to Parliament in question time and in the Tory government's public justification for its current law-and-order crackdown blamed the rioting all on common criminality, bad parenting, and young people's disrespect for authority. Nary a reference to very vocal, public anger over police brutality issues, local incidents which in England (as is often the case in America) lit the fuse which immediately ignited the escalating chaos in the streets.
The mainstream UK politicians of and the UK media would prefer to say nothing whatsoever about racial tensions. Such deplorable behavior by gun-toting, uniformed white authority figures is so stereotypically American. Rather than emulate those boorish redneck Yanks, most Brits would prefer to pretend there simply is no race problem over on their side of the Atlantic.
Bill from Saginaw
The police brutality is directed against poor people. Against people without much power to fight back. Ian Tomlinson was not black, not unless you have come up with a new definition of "black".
There are racial tensions, but it isn't the simplistic black vs white racial tensions that you think that they are.
". Rather than emulate those boorish redneck Yanks, most Brits would prefer to pretend there simply is no race problem over on their side of the Atlantic.
"
Hardly. In fact, many on the right, including Cameron, have repeatedly repeated the mantra that "multiculturalism has failed". Many on the right in the UK, repeatedly insist that there are a lot of racial problems, a lot of racial tensions, to the point that these racial problems and tensions are causing the collapse of society, and that the UK should return to some mysthical golden age of white people and "white values". Meanwhile, many people of varying races, just get on with their lives, and get on with each other.
You, and Glenn Ford, are projecting a very simplistic, and outdated, view of race and race relations.
Sir:
Are you certain this imposition of power is callous racism? British Prime Minister Cameron tragically cut short his Tuscan summer holiday to respond to English rioting. Should Italians be considered white people? Most are darker than English folk. If the PM was willing to live with his family among the swarthy people, sometimes barefoot, can he be racist?
Are the Irish white? Just asking.
No. According to the more traditional British racist anyhow. The fact that they were Catholic trumped any notion that the colour of the skin mattered at all.
I fear for the future of our young people. It is genuinely terrifying we are only witnessing the start of the beginning.
