Five Ways the Democrats Can Avoid a Catastrophe and Pull Off the Mother of All Upsets
Sadly, it's a situation the Democrats have brought upon themselves -- even though the majority of them didn't create the mess we're in. But they've had over a year and a half to start getting the job done to fix it. Instead, they've run scared ever since they took power. To many, the shellacking they're about to receive is one they deserve.
But if you're of a mindset that believes a return to 2001-2008 would be sheer insanity, then you probably agree we've got no choice but to save the Democrats from themselves.
Memo To: President Obama and the Democratic Party Leadership
From: Michael Moore
Subject: 5 Things Dems Can Do to Turn It Around by November 2nd
1. Immediate Wall-to-Wall TV Ads, Internet Videos, and Appearances Hammering Who the Hell Put Us in the Misery We're In.
We Americans have very short attention spans (Quick: Who Won the Oscar for Best Picture last year? The World Series? Exactly.). People need to be reminded over and over that it was the REPUBLICANS who concocted and led the unnecessary invasion of two countries, putting us in our longest war ever, wars that will eventually cost us over $3 trillion. Bush and Co. also caused the biggest collapse of our economy since the Great Depression. I don't know a single person in Hollywood who wouldn't shoot and produce those spots for you for FREE. Dems: Do not pull a single punch on this. Quit being a bunch of wusses and let the bastards have it! The public will be astonished that you've found your courage and your spine. We expect you to be Muhammad Ali, not Ally McBeal.
2. Indict the Criminals.
Announce that the Justice Department will seek indictments against both those who caused the economic collapse and those who became war profiteers. Call it for what it is: organized crime. Use the RICO statutes. Use the basic laws that make fraud of any kind a crime. Get in the face of those who stole the billions, make them pay for it -- and the people will love you. We want Dirty Harry, not Dirty Dancing.
3. Announce a Moratorium on All Family Home Foreclosures.
Last month (August) there were more home foreclosures than in any month in U.S. history. Worse than any month in the worst year ever, 2009. The bleeding hasn't stopped -- it's only gotten worse. And now, this week, two of the largest crime organizations who are throwing hundreds of thousands of people out of their homes (GMAC and JPMorgan Chase) have been forced to momentarily stop doing this. It turns out, they don't really have the paperwork to prove they actually own these houses! It's madness. So if you do one thing for the middle class this week, do this. It will take an hour of your time to draw up the decree and issue it. We'd rather watch "It's a Wonderful Life" than "Poltergeist."
4. Announce a New 21st Century WPA.
"Who's hiring? THE GOVERNMENT IS HIRING!" Put together a simple plan to hire enough people to repair our roads, fix up our aging schools, and rebuild our infrastructure. Fund this by taxing the richest 1% who have more financial wealth than 95% of Americans combined! Unemployment will drop to 5%. Can you pass it? Well, you sure can't unless you try! And as you're trying, announce that you will force the Republican senators (who until now simply have had to say they "intended" to filibuster in order to kill a bill) to have to actually filibuster! Make them stand on the floor of the Senate and read from the phone book 24/7. They won't last a day. And America will see them for who they really are.
5. Declare That No Democrat Will Accept ANY Wall Street Money in the Next Election Cycle.
Pick a day in the coming week. Have all your fellow Democrats in Congress stand in front of the Capitol (with President Obama) and pledge that if America allows you to retain control of Congress, none of you will take a penny from Wall Street for the 2012 election. Instead, promise to accept donations of only $2, $5 and $10. You will also pledge not to take a job as a lobbyist or lawyer for ANY corporation for ten years after you leave Congress. The message will be a powerful one to the average American fed up with corrupt political hacks. Act like Honest Abe, not Fast Freddie -- and see what happens.
And here are two bonus suggestions: Use what sense of humor you have and go after these candidates and their agenda with all the hilarious ridicule they deserve. And quit complaining about "the base" not doing enough to help you. You want help? Do something this week to earn it. I've offered five suggestions. I'm sure the rest of "the base" has a few more.

Show AllMicheal Moore's suggestions, while worthy, will never be done by the Democrats as they require a hint of a spine.
I agree.
Yeah, you know, all the Dems and Obama have to do is move just a LITTLE BIT to the left to get mass popularity and winning votes. If they just did one or two things on Micheal's list they'd get there. I can't understand why progressives are always given such short shrift. It would be so easy for the politicians give a little sop to the masses. PLEASE!
Progressives are given short thrift because their agenda clashes with the Dem Party money men whose only concern is keeping the corporate money flowing into the Dem party.
Never forget that Obama was the top recipient of campaign contributions from Wall St in 2008.
It's not just progressives who get short shrift, it's the majority of Democratic voters and often all voters in general. You can check out the polls to see just how little the two parties think about We the People. Over 60% of Americans preferred a strong public option health care bill. Among Democrats it was closer to 85%, yet Congress passed the corporate designed bill with no public option. It was a vicious slap in the face.
The two parties are immoral and by supporting them we only encourage their nasty agenda.
The writer and Buddhist monk, Pema Chodron, tells the story of how she was set free by her husband and her own limited thinking. Up until he betrayed her, she was the ordinary faithful wife ... and then suddenly she was dumped. As a devastated and lonely woman, she wondered how she could go on. Eventually, she found comfort and enlightenment in Buddhism. Today she says he did her a big favor. He gave her what became the greatest gift - her freedom.
The Democrats have abused the people who trusted them. In doing so, they have set us free!
I think you may be right. Why don't you write or email the White House and tell Obama what you think? Your voice counts.
Marky -
Begging and pleading for rancid scraps from the mega-buffet will get you just that -rancid scraps. Is that really a viable future for you?
Technically, these elected ASSHOLES are supposed to represent YOU. How much longer will you be content to choke down rancid scraps while your elected officials dine on caviar and truffels?
Oh they have plenty of spine alright. When it comes to dialing for dollars and doing the bidding of their masters they have a lot of courage. The difference between Ds and Rs is that the Ds are better liars.
You're WHIIIIIINING!
They really are the biggest liars and certainly the biggest hypocrites.
You have got to remember that It is not the republicans and democrats anymore It is us vs them.
And them guys got all the cards!

From the headline any sane person would know to SKIP the goddamned pandering of MM and go straight to the comments boards.
Is MM really such a fool??? or does he just play one on TV???
His last movie was made with the help of Rahm Emanuel's brother.
Moore isn't a mean mogul or a corporate magnate out to stomp us with tyranny but he is still too tied to the status quo for MONEY. He is afraid to be blackballed and lose his fortune. I think that would be the best thing that could happen to him. For now, he is an enabler of our corrupt system despite his great movies and ideas.
He reminds me of the saintly mafia wife who prays for her mobster husband every day while she lives in a fine house with great food paid for by crime.
Co-dependent all the way.
NONETHELESS -- whatever our individual dissatisfactions with anything Michael Moore does or "does not do enough of"....
WHAT HE DELINEATED in NO UNCERTAIN TERMS - which many individuals know already - but NEED a "BIG LOUD MOUTH" (like michael - but that's an appreciation)
IS CORRECT and MORALLY RIGHT.
in this -- we should highly Commend Mister Moore for CLEARLY, EMPHATICALLY putting it.
that's what's needed from people with the power of the "megaphone" -- whatever ELSE happens after that. it is STILL better than to say NOTHING or merely to "whisper" it in the internet among "ourselves"...or as disparate individuals.
in THIS case - Mister Moore is using his position PROPERLY and for the right reasons and hoping for the right "results".
at least - that way -- OBAMA and company will have been challenged FACE ON.
and "show themselves" once and for all as they say they "will" YET AGAIN because they are fearful of the election debacle coming at them.
in this way -- Michael Moore is drawing a CLEAR line in the sand for everyone to see..most IMPORTANTLY the american people to SEE.
mister moore is , in his own way, doing something that reminds me of a scene late in that great famous trilogy "LORD OF THE RINGS" by JRR TOLKIEN.
in the BOOK ..there is a point where Frodo carrying the ring to destroy its evil in the Volcano Mount Doom, deep in the heart of the Evil Sauron's realm, and his ever-loyal sidekick Samwise Gamgee are cornered by the suspicious and of course war-weary soldiers of the Kingdom of Gondor , the enemy of Evil Sauron.
not knowin what their fate might be: will the young warrior chief and son of the lord of gondor HAND FRODO and the RING of Power over to his father , the lord of gondor , who will be tempted and become evil under the ring ? and betray everything?
will he , as a young Lord -in -waiting himself instead TAKE the RIng of Power for himself and all its Magic to give overwhelming abilities to RULE?
and so - in that moment of great choices -
Samwise Gamgee told the young Chief Warrior, Lord Faramir:
"Sire -- this is the time -- to show your QUALITY".
of course faramir passed that severe test: SO CLOSE to unlimited power for himself..all he had to do was TAKE that ring from Frodo's neck ...and HE becomes a GREAT, GREAT ruler to challenge Sauron himself and rule all of Middle Earth and become Immortal.
but says:
"nay -- not even were the ring laid on the ground before me will I take it, now that I know what it IS..I will rather FLEE from it, lest i FALL Low in the Test...do not show me the Thing again, do not even MENTION it to me again.....
“But fear no more! I would not take this thing, if it lay by the highway. Not were Minas Tirith falling in ruin and I alone could save her, so, using the weapon of the Dark Lord for her good and my glory. No, I do not wish for such triumphs, Frodo son of Drogo.[8]"
"“Even if I were such a man as to desire this thing, and even though I knew not clearly what this thing was when I spoke, still I should take those words as a vow and be held by them”
“but I am not such a man. (GREAT - like his older brother) Or I am wise enough to know that there are some perils from which a man must flee”
" ‘For myself,’ said Faramir,
‘I would see the White Tree in flower again in the courts of the kings, and the Silver Crown return, and Minas Tirith in peace: Minas Anor again as of old, full of light, high and fair,
beautiful as a queen among other queens: not a mistress of many slaves,
nay, not even a kind mistress of willing slaves.
War must be, while we defend our lives against a destroyer who would devour all;
but I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory.
I love only that which they defend: the city of the Men of Númenor;
and I would have her loved for her memory, her ancientry, her beauty, and her present wisdom.
Not feared, SAVE AS MEN MAY FEAR THE DIGNITY OF A MAN, OLD AND WISE.
‘So fear me not! I do not ask you to tell me more. I do not even ask you to tell me whether I now speak nearer the mark. But if you will trust me, it may be that I can advise you in your present quest, whatever that be—yes, and even aid you.’
=======================================
this is the kind of moment that Michael Moore is trying to use his "megaphone" - whatever HIS failures might be as others see them - to challenge OBAMA and his ILK "democrats"...
"SHOW YOUR QUALITY".
OF COURSE -- in all likelihood OBAMA democrats and congress and "leaders" of the HIGH....
are already far beyond salvation.
THEY ARE minions of Sauron the Dark Lord .. and Washington is their Mount Doom with its Evil Rings of Power in their Global "land of Mordor".
Uh, I'll take a hit of whatever it is you're smoking, teddy.
As much as I bitch about him, I love and respect MM's film work and what he's done. Like Nader, I can't imagine not having him around. But, I think he's doing more harm than good by getting involved like this. Its too late for this type of fear mongering.
Moore is stating outrageously false information in order to make something positive out of it.
Bill Clinton planted the more potent seeds of corruption into our field of economics than our boy idiot GWB. Glass/Stegall, NAFTA to name two. There is no way one can blame only the republicans.
Moore is losing what credibility he has left with these types obvious shallow and silly rants. In fact, given this piece, hell, I might want a hit off his pipe as well. They might scare a few kids out there, the ones who still believe in that MoveOn, Huffpo, Alternet bullshit, but most here have moved forward, I think.
The chickens are coming home. No, the chickens are flocking home.
I smell panic. Lots and lots of panic.
you're probably right MOONPIE. I am also of course just "clinging" to the slightest shred of hope..considering that you know as well how 'harsh' MY own commentaries have been.
and all that against my own fears that indeed, however strongly or more defined Moore may try to "evolve" his own communication on things...it is, like I said in another comment that reflects my more basic growing conviction:
FAR TOO LATE.
I really have been trying to avoid confronting that, even for myself, despite MY own harsh comments about the state of affairs. it is actually one of the main reasons I have been reminding and discouraging any relatives or friends in the Philippines or even those I knew in other countries --
"DO NOT COME to the USA....attempt NO LANDING THERE".
and some that I might care about as friends or acquaintances...especially when they are still young with years ahead of them...i tell them:
"do whatever you can to finish your studies, at least get SOME degree or credential just to help you open doors...but if you can at all manage to save, to prepare, to plan, do EVERYTHING YOU CAN to start life anew SOMEWHERE ELSE. if you speak spanish or portuguese -- GO to brazil or argentina, or somewhere, open you a small business you know you can manage...go to canada, go to spain, go to china, go back to taiwan, go back to japan, go back to whereever y ou came from and help in YOUR country -- or if y ou're AMERICAN.....
while there is TIME .....FLEE, FLEE and go as far as you can AWAY from this land".
but when it gets down to the fundamentals, in everything that really counts..i fear you are RIGHT ..or that my own fears were right. as I sometimes would say:
AMERICA can NOT be saved -- from itself.
we are all perhaps just involved in our lives and discussions on a "waiting" period...
in the Soviet Union -- it was clearly a mistake of leadership and its focus. the people despite their great culture and history - never had any real say after the chaos of the world war considering how much - infinitely much - more they had lost to Hitler and then Stalin, compared to the USA. so - the collapse of the soviet union - was LESS a collapse of RUSSIA as it might have remained with or without the soviet union , one way or another...and to find itself TODAY just where it is -- a "country" that is mindful of its limits and DOES what it must -- Accomodate REALITY - such as with its giant neighbor China and all the other complexities of the world. as it always has.
BUT THE USA - america -- is a PARTNERSHIP between leadership AND the People. and its collapse and degeneration is OF and BY the people..which includes its master class and its ruled.
for that -- I fear that it is TRULY self-administered and can not be saved FROM ITSELF.
teddy - did anyone ever mention to you that brevity can be a beautiful thing?
yes, many many times...but I love length. brief enough for you?
It's not how long it is but what you do with it.
Excellent words, teddy. Thank you. I get it, and I think you're right on this one: get what you can and get out. Good advice for the kids. This isn't the America any of us grew up in or even knew from afar. This is a nation gone out of control, nation gone wild.
We & our American capitalism are in deep trouble. We are indeed all to blame.
.
Problem is, most countries don't want Americans without Money.
Let's sum up the suggestions:
1. Democrats, stop being Democrats.
DEM party; no RIP just die. Tony
If that happens you're going to get Palin/Brewer instead. Is that better? Didn't think so.
Its called the long game.
Short term pain, long term gain.
This was really funny.
Moore's a decent guy, but man, I wish he'd get his narratives straight. I'm getting whiplash trying to figure out just what this guy's politics are.
I have a similar reaction, drone.
This will probably become another Moore article that generates hundreds of comments bickering over whether Moore is more to be admired, pitied, or censured.
But I hope there won't be too many denying that Moore's politics are still fatally anchored to supporting the Democrats, and seeing the Democratic Party, albeit an imaginary reformed (and reformable) Democratic Party, as the path to sociopolitical salvation.
This time around, Moore is definitely channeling his inner naïve Democrat. It may be well-meaning, but it reads like the work of an enthusiastic adolescent high school political-science club geek.
I'm waiting for him to get down on his knees again, on national TV. But this time to beg Obama and the Democrats, not Ralph Nader.
I got past the first paragraph and realized what a waste of time it is. Moore was on Bill Maher last week on the big screen and I could only watch two minutes of it -- same old, same old, but ra-ra for the Dems. The rest of the show I just -- well, let's say, it wasn't worth my time, and in fact, I turned it off midway between a discussion of HCR. Maher went into a defense of Obamacare that was similar to his defense of Israel at the end of last season -- sickening. He's like the HuffPo of HBO -- a basic Dem-Repub slugfest.
What creeps me out, though, OS, and I'm sure yo've seen this out of Moore for years, is that not 24 hours ago he publishes a piece talking about how the president doesn't matter and that the whole country is largely governed by shadowy, undemocratic forces. I mean, that admission has some profoundly serious implications. And then a day later and talk about voting for Democrats.
That's some serious intellectual schizophrenia. You see that kind of stuff from a lot of establishment liberal figures where they see the reality, but it's apparently too painful to finish the walk to the logical conclusions and do what must be done.
I dunno. It gets frustrating. These are smart people, but they constantly get right up to the line, and then, abruptly turn away because they're terrified of what they'll see before them.
How did you get "Vote for Dems" out of this?
I saw it more as "Dems do this NOW if you want votes in November"
The premise of his argument is still that, as bad as Dems are, "it would be sheer insanity to return to 2001-2008". Standard lesser of two evils positioning, and that positioning discounts any other option other than conceding to the two-party stranglehold on the political process, which, in turn, has led Dem leaders to conclude that they can take their base completely for granted as long as they at least "appear" to be the lesser evil. This piece plays straight into that pathology.
Not a chance in hell of it happening. It's October now. The only chance the dems have is to launch another war to distract the people. Moore's ideas might have worked a year and a half ago, today they'd be a year and a half late and many dollars short.
Face it, the crazies are about to take over congress. Apres ca, le deluge. Oh, I should explain the 'crazy' term... I don't mean that the dems are less crazy than the repubs, just that the repubs are actually more nutty than the dims are.
A new war is the most likely outcome of the drubbing the dims are likely to take next month. The question is will it start this month as a 'last gasp' effort by the dims to cling to power, or as the first salvo of the repukes who think that war is what gives us real meaning in this world... After all, it's going to take them a little while to come up with a strategy of impeaching O.
I believe as they have speaker in both houses, that those speakers can introduce bills without going through committees.
"Corporations are not People" could be one.
Just those 3 words, put fort with the proper enumeration to become law.
call it "The October Surprise Part 2 Bill"
MM I know you mean right but the suggestions, from my perspective, is a non sequitur at best and naive at worst. When Michael will you realize the Democrats are nothing but a fake opposition party, like Frank Cash said on the thread below: " good cop/bad cop ". Your suggestions, in my view, are commendable but sophomoric and no wonder you bought the Obomba con!
You are too generous. His films show that he is well acquainted with bias and misrepresentation.
"...he is well acquainted with bias and misrepresentation"
Cliche and unfounded.
But true. Much of what his films do is compare misrepresentations with truth for comedic effect, for which he is accuse of "bias."
I'm not convinced Moore's strategy would work even if the Dems did have the "spine" to implement it. Blaming the previous administration rarely plays well with voters, who could justifiably point to the Democratic supermajorities in the current Congress as a mandate to do far more than they actually have.
Blaming the previous administration does work, but its the voters who do the blaming. Bush for domestic, foreign, and personal failure, Clinton for moral transgressions.
Hard to argue with any of Morre's suggestions, however, asking millionaires to tax millionaires has, so far, proved futile.
in a way you are right...and perhaps Moore is indeed asking for something that will not happen either way.
in many ways -- this "blaming game" will not work -- because of one thing;
the American populace itself.
they are already poised to once again "vote" in teh same seesaw machine..thinking of course that by "changing" their votes - they are escaping an american self-administered (and i mean by that not JUST by politicians but AMERICANS as a people) --
disease.
there is simply - no other way.
the democrats and republicans are beyond salvation as political parties in any manner that talks about "common good, liberty, justice, truth".
they - as parties are THROUGH and THROUGH CORRUPT.
and a people that keeps RETURNING to the same POTS - merely switching from one to the other in a general SINGLE DIRECTION - are themselves part of the entire Corrupt structure,,,even if they think they are trying to "make changes' through their "will" of merely
PULLING a lever or pushing a button.
the CORRUPTION and therefore the LOSS of liberties and truth and real choices and justice
were LOST LONG AGO...
by BOTH the leaderships and the american people.
what will happen is merely like a dismally poor imitation of Kabuki theatre..like a pantomime of make-believe "election" which of course the majority of those that will vote -- between GOP and DEMOCRATS -- will convince themselves is a path to salvation...
because they think that by PUNISHING the democrats after PUNISHING the GOP -- they are showing their WILL - even if they are themselves complicit in being MADE to HEEL!!
the USA is now like an accelerating Train Wreck into an abyss..already in it, just boring ever deeper into the hole ...with people trying to save themselves by running from the FIRST CAR to the Last Car...with one car having GOP on the door, the next car Democrat on the Door...and the rest -- trying to jump OFF but hanging on for dear life trying to find the right moment to do so....but even THAT is being swiftly dragged down by the Train Wreck USA. it's its nature, in fact. it's like a GIANT MAW that swallows everything in its path in orgies of destruction of everything that makes life worthwhile or meaningful.
but the whole train : USA TRAIN WRECK. the only thing people can really do now is try to weather that storm and as far as they can endure - try to preserve what little liberties or decencies in life they can...even as they know or realize more and more that as decent as they try to be....they ARE INSIDE the TRAIN USA WRECK.
i fear for us all in the USA.
In other words, according to MM, all the Democrats have to do is announce these 5 things without making any serious commitments to carry them out once in office and they'll miraculously win. Republicans and Democrats always do that election after election and with "fixed" elections and a conditioned electorate, the same clowns or new clowns with different names and face changes get elected and it goes back to "business as usual". As usual, keep sending lame letters to this rotten administration and the Democrat/Republican Party expecting something new and improved only to end up doing it again when they don't deliver.
"But if you're of a mindset that believes a return to 2001-2008 would be sheer insanity, then you probably agree we've got no choice but to save the Democrats from themselves."
The Democrats are smugly and exactly what they want to be: thieves, liars and warmongers of the ladies and gentlemen variety. Unlike the Republicans, who hurl their dirt at the nation and then go directly to dine in the penthouse, the Democrats employ hand sanitizer before sitting down to their expensive meals. Michael Moore, like Robert Scheer, is a mystery to me. I don't understand how they can act as apologists for the Democrats, knowing what rotten, miserable swine they are. In any case, Mr. Moore, I suggest you read Paul Craig Roberts' article "It's Official: The United States Is Now a Police State". In it he concludes that the majority of the American people "are too gullible, too uneducated and too jingoistic" to preserve their freedom. Every time you vote for someone like Obama or Clinton, every time you fall for that dodge called the evil of two lessers, you sully yourself. There is nothing "pragmatic" about it. It's tantamount to drinking poison. I'm 65 and I finally got that through my thick skull.
I agree with Roberts as well Mordie, (Greenwald and others have a similar take). Another similar way to see it is how Sheldon Wolin describes "inverted totalitarianism".
It took me years and years as well to see through the most sophisticated and expensive public relations machine in the history of the world. The illusion of "democracy" must be maintained at all costs. Besides elections and campaigns are big business in and of themselves, Obama/McCain alone cost over a billion dollars - the most expensive election campaign in the history of the world.
The Paul Craig Roberts article you recommend, "It's Official: The United States is Now a Police State," is well worth reading. (Mr. Roberts served in the Reagan administration, and has decades of credentials since from the conservative side.)
Maybe instead of wasting his time beating a dead horse, Michael Moore could find a way to make a funny documentary about how our hope and change Democrats have destroyed the U.S. Constitution.
http://www.lewrockwell.com/roberts/roberts283.html
by Paul Craig Roberts:
On September 24, Jason Ditz reported on Antiwar.com that “the FBI is confirming that this morning they began a number of raids against the homes of antiwar activists in Illinois, Minneapolis, Michigan, and North Carolina, claiming that they are ‘seeking evidence relating to activities concerning the material support of terrorism.’”
Now we know what Homeland Security (sic) secretary Janet Napolitano meant when she said on September 10: “The old view that ‘if we fight the terrorists abroad, we won’t have to fight them here’ is just that – the old view.” The new view, Napolitano said, is “to counter violent extremism right here at home.”
“Violent extremism” is one of those undefined police state terms that will mean whatever the government wants it to mean. In this morning’s FBI’s foray into the homes of American citizens of conscience, it means antiwar activists, whose activities are equated with “the material support of terrorism,” just as conservatives equated Vietnam era anti-war protesters with giving material support to communism.
Anti-war activist Mick Kelly whose home was raided, sees the FBI raids as harassment to intimidate those who organize war protests. I wonder if Kelly is underestimating the threat. The FBI’s own words clearly indicate that the federal police agency and the judges who signed the warrants do not regard antiwar protesters as Americans exercising their Constitutional rights, but as unpatriotic elements offering material support to terrorism.
“Material support” is another of those undefined police state terms. In this context the term means that Americans who fail to believe their government’s lies and instead protest its policies, are supporting their government’s declared enemies and, thus, are not exercising their civil liberties but committing treason.
As this initial FBI foray is a softening up move to get the public accustomed to the idea that the real terrorists are their fellow citizens here at home, Kelly will get off this time. But next time the FBI will find emails on his computer from a “terrorist group” set up by the CIA that will incriminate him. Under the practices put in place by the Bush and Obama regimes, and approved by corrupt federal judges, protesters who have been compromised by fake terrorist groups can be declared “enemy combatants” and sent off to Egypt, Poland, or some other corrupt American puppet state – Canada perhaps – to be tortured until confession is forthcoming that antiwar protesters and, indeed, every critic of the US government, are on Osama bin Laden’s payroll.
Americans are the most gullible people who ever existed. They tend to support the government instead of the Constitution, and almost every Republican and conservative regards civil liberty as a coddling device that encourages criminals and terrorists.Almost every Republican and conservative and, indeed, the majority of Americans will fall for this, only to find, later, that it is subversive to complain that their Social Security was cut in the interest of the war against Iran or some other demonized entity, or that they couldn’t have a Medicare operation because the wars in Central Asia and South America required the money.
The US media, highly concentrated in violation of the American principle of a diverse and independent media, will lend its support to the witch hunts that will close down all protests and independent thought in the US over the next few years. As the Nazi leader Joseph Goebbels said, “think of the press as a great keyboard on which the Government can play.”
An American Police State was inevitable once Americans let “their” government get away with 9/11. Americans are too gullible, too uneducated, and too jingoistic to remain a free people. As another Nazi leader Herman Goering said, “The people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. Tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peace-makers for lack of patriotism and for exposing the country to danger.”
This is precisely what the Bush and Obama regimes have done. America, as people of my generation knew it, no longer exists.
I am sad to say that I agree with you, Mordechai. I haven't read Roberts' article, but that sounds like an apt summation of the American people.
"The Democrats are smugly and exactly what they want to be: thieves, liars and warmongers of the ladies and gentlemen variety."
Mordechai consistently comes up with quotable gems!
please, no moore...
Gotta love that 5th suggestion. It's like telling a pig it could succeed bigtime if only it would stop eating.
