Aren't We Cheneyed Out Yet?
At what point do we call them the family of mass intimidation and simply stop playing into the Cheney clan's tired old terror tactics?
Liz is the latest. Cheney child number one made the headlines this week, with an innuendo-laced video questioning the loyalty of lawyers who represent Guantanamo detainees. "The Al Qaeda 7: Who are they?" Asks the voice on a video released by Cheney's supposedly nonprofit, non-partisan new hit squad. (They call it an advocacy group?)
Liz is playing from a battered old family play book. Shortly after September 11, it was her mother out there, accusing people of lack of patriotism. Lynne Cheney teamed up with Senator Joseph Lieberman to release a report which accused colleges and universities of being the "weak link in America's response" and naming 117 professors and students whom they called "short on patriotism" and "hostile to the US and western Civilization"
Not to be outdone by his women, barely a month has passed between 2001 and today in which Darth Vader patriarch Dick Cheney didn't accuse some Democrat or another of endangering the homeland. The former vice president's training in bait and snitch dates back to the 60s when when he spied on Students for A Democratic Society meetings, jotting down names for his then-boss Donald Rumsfeld in an attempt to cut government funding for public colleges.
Teachers, lawyers, politicians, in case it's not entirely clear, the Cheney's aren't too hot on the independent professions of a free democracy, but they are red hot for the contemporary equivalent of red-baiting and they've gotten it down pat, how to harness the money media to do their bidding.
After all, it's thanks to the media it works. Even concerted attacks on campus progressives, lawyers, and political candidates don't successfully discredit their targets without the help of the media who carry the allegations and innuendos. Facts be damned, it's the accusations that do the work: intimidating scholars, chilling freedom of expression, driving lawyers and politicians out of the line of fire.
The media - like FOX - who went ahead this week and obediently printed the names of the Cheney-tagged "7" place the dead horse heads in the beds. Without them, the Cheney mob are simply name callers.
It's time the media started greeting Cheneyisms with the reaction they deserve. Snore. And most important of all, silence.

Show AllI don't think we are quite ready to have another Great Fear, in which the "Greatest Generation" quivered in their boots and looked under their beds for them dreaded "commies," and blacklists ruined the lives of many a dissenter and even people with the wrong name.
Cheney et all are still detested in the homeland for their involvement in the Bushwacking of America. Dick is not yet Joe McCarthy even with his lists of "traitors." Let's see if the craven Republicans join in the chorus or try to separate themselves from this lunacy.
The great pity is that the Fawning Corporate Media gives any airtime of column inches to this crap. Why are they?
I suppose their masters told them so.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a 2012 GOP ticket like Scott Brown and Dick Cheney.
Exactamente!
You wouldn't be surprised, but I'd be scared right down to my socks!
I'm disappointed that Holder, Lindsay Graham, and the others who came out against Liz Cheney's recent smear tactics, have all stopped short of demanding a public apology from her.
God I'd love to see a Cheney stand up there in front of a camera and microphone and speak the "A-word." The media also fails here by not pressing her on the issue.
Also - will someone please ask Liz just what action should be taken if the names of the "Al Queda 7" were actually disclosed?
I doubt she would want to go there either.
"Also - will someone please ask Liz just what action should be taken if the names of the "Al Queda 7" were actually disclosed?"
Why, the bastards would be waterboarded, of course, and then sent to Guantanamo.
Yes - of course - but I don't think she wants to extend the conversation on this issue - these people are tactical shlock artists - all they want to do is induce emotional responses to preclude the natural inclination to think and reason.
Cheney, Rove, Bush and the rest of their cohorts, as well as the Repubs in Congress, have been an absolute gift for the Obama Administration, a great cover for their neocon activities.
As I suffered yet another financial setback due to the USPS losing something in the mail -- at least three times since November '09 -- these were my thoughts:
The USPS is having a lot of trouble due to the recession. Obama disparaged the USPS, as well as the DMV, Medicare and other public entities this summer in the health care debates. I have yet to hear him say anything good about any of these vital entities. Imagine if Bush was doing this? But Obama cheerleaders will give him a pass and, in fact, cheer him on.
If Obama announced the privatization of Social Security, one program that Bush -- thank God -- could not get pushed through, is suggested in Obama-speak I guarantee they will be cheering him on.
Who will be the Joseph Welch of our age who finally shoves these fascist bastards into the gutter?

The vast majority of contemporary Amurkans lack the brains or simple human decency to even pay attention to these fascists until their (and their close family's) teeth are kicked in or they're maimed or killed in oil/terror wars--and millions of them remain in denial even then: Cheney's ongoing ubiquity in Amurkan media is a reflection of America's ongoing indecency with regard to the entire Bush-Cheney maladministration. Post-Bush II Amurkans are cattle and Cheney is just another electric cattle prod.
"Aren't We Cheneyed Out Yet?"
I darn sure am! Dickie Vader needs to take his daughter and their lies and fade away into the obscurity reserved for dictators, despots and traitors to their country.
He betrayed America as surely as Pelosi/Reid and Obama are doing now.
Ditto.
Don't forget VP Joe Biden, D-MBNA ! The credit card bubble isn't too far off.
What's easier and simpler - wishing the corporate media purveyed news and truth, trying to get Famous People to recant erroneous remarks, or learning to NOT listen to liars, thieves, traitors, and their spokespersons? Granted, we need to address some of the disinformation in the spirit of knowing 'what's going on' in our world, but such attention ought to be limited; I deeply regret our culture's Hollywood-style adulation of the Rich and Famous (or attractive, charismatic, athletic, etc).
Cheny Beneath Contempt. Why, exactly, is he not in an orange jumpsuit?
liz came into this world a size ddd. by that, i mean daddy's draft deferment. when student deferments ended, he conceived her. no kidding. it's all documented, but seldom reported. can you imagine if bill and and hillary had conceived chelsea to avoid vietnam? chelsea would be the nation's pariah, never listened to on any subject.such a stunt would have assured clinton's defeat. media hectoring would be ceaseless. not so with the cheneys. what lessons, if any, does this teach us?
if they re-instate the draft we should dick lynn cheney?
"hostile to the US AND Western Civilization"?
A remarkable feat matched only by some Muslim extremists.
Laughing Out Loud - Heinz has 57 varieties and Cheney has 117.
The Ghosts of Christmas Past are only rattling their Old Chain Bridge Road.
The article's title asks, "Aren't We Cheneyed Out Yet?" but the article fails to answer this question.
The answer is "no." "We" will not be "Cheneyed Out" until Cheney and his ilk are prosecuted and incarcerated for their war crimes.
This will not happen in these United States. Ergo, author Laura Flanders should prepare herself for a long season of Cheneyism. And it is useless to call on the media to ignore Cheney's hateful lies. The corporate media are part of the same corporate capitalist/imperialist system that is the inspiration for Cheney's extremism.
Correct - Until prosecuted for his Crimes - and Hung until Dead.
I'd love to see more of Cheney and Bush II, too........ as long as they are appearing as defendants before an International War Crimes Tribunal and answering charges for committing crimes againts humanity.
AHHH HAHAHAHA! What planet do I think I'm on?
We were Cheneyed out a long time ago. Now, we're being Bidened out. So please tell us who's worse, Cheney of Halliburton or Biden of MBNA? Both are neocon and neolib too. No wait ! I got it. Biden can buy us out with another tearful speech about taking AMTRAK to work without caring about lack of funding while the rest of us unable to afford those expensive train fares are forced into driving to and from work. And who cares if Biden or Cheney is in? Both of them give the working class the economic middle finger with glee. Cheney the neocon behind Bush for 8 years now followed by Biden, D-MBNA, the big time neolib behind Obama for 4 years ! That's "change" we can believe in, isn't it?
Now Laura, why are we worried about the Cheneys? Could this have something to do with the Obama administration setting them scot-free? Come on, don't be afraid. Just let it out. We're upset too but we're planning on paying them back come November this year and November 2012 for betraying and backstabbing us like that so please join us.
Are the 117 a new list or simply an old list and Laura is dredging up history?

Bravo Laura!!!
Yes, without the fawning corporate media, the trash talk of the Cheney's would not be made public fare.
"Lynne Cheney teamed up with Senator Joseph Lieberman to release a report which accused colleges and universities of being the 'weak link in America's response' and naming 117 professors and students whom they called 'short on patriotism' and 'hostile to the US and western Civilization'"
In order to unite two divergent groups, in this case pro-imperial versus anti-imperial, each group must forfeit some principles. For the USan right/left to unite either the right forfeits imperialism, the left forfeits anti-imperialilsm, or both forfeit partially.
It could be argued that such a "balanced" mutually-partial forfeiture leaves USan imperialists too powerful still, given the monstrous plunder they perpetrate upon the planet.
This is why we on the far left give them no quarter. Now this could appear contradictory until one realizes that absolute forfeiture by the imperialists actually maximizes the health/well-being of the planet.
And so when the imperialists demand the anti-imperialists yield all, it's obvious that the imperialists are practicing bad-faith, trying to re-define reality, trying to delude people, to advance their imperial agenda, for the benefit of the few, at the expense of the many.
Polls show that the great majority of people embrace the principles of the far left when given a real choice. The imperialists have no free persons on their side. Their only suppport comes from their slaves.
The Cheney/Rove/FauxNews (etc.) phenomenon is a variant of the H.I.V. virus called "Hearing AIDS". It's contracted by listening to assholes.
