Rush & Joe Assume Command
Many of my readers have been wondering what happened to the leaders of the Republican Party since the election when the party took such a beating. Herewith a report. They be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.
— The Holy Bible, Matthew
The leader whose career has generated the most interest is, of course, Joe the Plumber. Many people thought Joe would complete whatever training he needed to become a licensed plumber. That was not to be. Unlike John McCain, who returned quietly to the United States Senate to continue his life as a senator, and Sarah Palin, who went back to Alaska to resume being a governor, Joe went in a brand new direction. He became a correspondent for Pajamas TV. His first assignment sent him to Israel, a position for which he was uniquely qualified.
Before the 2008 election he had an extensive interview with Shepard Smith of Fox News in which he explained why a vote for Barack Obama was a vote for the “death of Israel.” The interview was lengthy and I’ll not try to synthesize Joe’s cogent explanation in a few hundred words. It was no surprise, however, to learn that because of his incisive analysis of Mr. Obama’s position he was hired by Pajamas’s webpage gives an idea of the kind of in-depth reporting Joe did from there. Joe posted many stories including “what he thinks Israel’s response [to the proposed cease fire with Hamas] will be based on his conversations with regular Israelis”, and an analysis of “what the media should and should not do in time of war.”
After completing his assignment in Israel he returned to Washington where, according to a posting on Pajama’s website, on February 5 he was asked to “investigate the stimulus package” proposed by Mr. Obama. On February 11 the site said he had a report wrapping up “his investigation of the stimulus bill for PJTV.”
His next big assignment was to be part of the Conservative 2.0 Conference that was being held in conjunction with the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) 2009 convention that took place February 26-28. Joe was to participate in a panel entitled “Bias in Media and Education.” His appearance there was also listed in the CPAC agenda.
Joe was not the only celebrity to be part of the CPAC meeting. Many of the failed presidential candidates from the 2008 election season were there to make their suggestions as to how to save the country from the plight into which George Bush had thrust it. Their main message was that whatever the new president was doing was wrong, ignoring the fact that the recent election suggests that much of the country thought everything they’d done during the preceding eight years was even more wrong. The main speaker was not, however, a failed candidate but an icon of the conservative movement and someone who said shortly after Mr. Obama’s inauguration “I want him to fail.” The speaker was none other than Rush Limbaugh. According to reports Mr. Limbaugh was slated to speak for an hour but because he had so much to say, he spoke for almost an hour and a half. Explaining what he meant by saying he wanted Obama to fail he explained that the president’s plans include “rampant government growth, wealth that is not being created yet . . . being spent” and it is that policy that he hopes will fail.
It is clear what Joe’s future might be. He could be another Walter Cronkite. It is less clear what Rush Limbaugh’s future is. White House Chief of Staff, Rahm Emanuel, observed that Mr. Limbaugh is the “voice and the intellectual force and energy behind the Republican Party.” He pointed out that whenever a Republican criticized Rush, the critic found it necessary to “run back and apologize to him and say they were misunderstood.” Mr. Emanuel was probably thinking of Michael Steele, the new Republican National Committee chairman. Responding to CNN’s D.L. Hughley’s statement that Rush is the “de facto leader of the Republican party,” Mr. Steele said that the title belonged to him and went on to say that Rush is a “mere entertainer” whose show is “incendiary” and “ugly.” Using his golden microphone, Rush went on the attack the following day referring to Mr. Steele as a “so-called Republican” and saying the party needed a little leadership.” In response to Rush’s attack Mr. Steele retreated saying: “My intent was not to go after Rush-I have enormous respect for Rush Limbaugh. I was maybe a little bit inarticulate. . . . There was no attempt on my part to diminish his voice or his leadership.”
Now that that we all agree he’s the leader we can move on. It’s not too early to focus on the upcoming presidential elections in 2012 and it’s certainly not too early to suggest that an ideal Republican ticket would be led by Rush Limbaugh with Joe the Plumber as his running mate.

Show AllAnyone who has half a brain and who has listened to Rush for more than a few minutes realizes that he is lacking in anything more than moderate intelligence. That is, he can read and write and speak (or yell) standard English without murdering the language. I think he is the fitting spokesman for and leader of the GOP as it now stands.
I'm not a proponent of the Democratic Party. It's not much of a choice, between the absolutely corrupt and the rationalizing corrupt. A few more crumbs might fall through the cracks under Democrats, but those crumbs don't come from the rich and powerful people who make up the ruling class of this country, to which all politicians aspire. It's the middle class who must bear that burden. But I'm very encouraged that the GOP is finally showing it's ugly face. Now it's up to the people of this country to show that they have more since than to give any credence to Rush Limbaugh. It would be nice if they gave up support for a two party system. That system is the main weakness of our government and is not inherent in the constitution. But no, it's too much to ask.
Bring America Back !!!!..Exactly, Mr Markley, all the Dems need to do is replay most of Limbaugh's TV shows during Bill & Hillary Clintons years--especially her,
where Rush's hatred, invective, and impassioned rejection was and is enough to turn anybody's lunch !!!!
****But Limbaugh provides mainstream media sufficient distraction politically so they do not need to live up to their enabling King George for 8 years, and his crimes and war crimes !
****Now that Rush made it thru his prescription drugs, his overweight radio shows, and his tropical shirts, let us all proclain him De Facto Leader of the Republican Party !!!! Michael Steele will be his straight man ! Great Vaudeville !!
*And we know Emperor G. W. Bush insisted on wearing a full suit of clothes in and around the Oval Office !
Bring America Back !!!!..........Brauchli's sarcasm is pretty funny here, and re-hashes most of the late shows monologues of the past 2 weeks !
...However, in our laughter let us not forget the very pertinent article also posted in CD this morn==about the real "Brain" behind these Neocon tactics !
That being Karl Rove.
****Rove was taken off the Radar screen a year ago to run the cover ups and distractions King George would need when he left office !! Rove has been quite effective as the engineer behind the scenes.
Just listen to Him on Fox TV, regurgitation the Neocon party lines. In a short month and a half, they have Obama taking ownership of The War and
The Big Bailouts, as well !! The traditional opposition party 'Honeymoon" for a new President just never happened, as they began banging on Obama from the very start.
***Rove knows the best defense is a good offense, so the Truth Commission, and any other serious inquiries of Bush crimes and war crimes, remain but Pipe Dreams of we Leftys while the loud din of Afghan and Economy drowns us out !
**Notice how the real contenders keep off the firing line==Mitt Romney and Sarah Palin !! Just watch for them about 3 years from now!
*The Neocons are not Stupid--they know and use clever tactics--That's how they made Jimmy Carter a one-term Prez. (even after Watergate) They snuck Ronnie Reagan right in there as easy as pie !
*That 's what Rove is up to, and all while we get a great comedy gong show out of the Rush, Steele, & Joe shows.
Brauchli's sarcasm completely forgets The Brain, pretty funny, Right !?
"In a short month and a half, they have Obama taking ownership of The War and
The Big Bailouts, as well"
rove had nothing to do w/that. obama did that all on his own. rove is neither that smart or that evil. he probably even relishes the role of darth vader that people assign him, knowing it's a big joke.
more importantly, obama's doj is working overtime to defend rove (and meiers, et al) from congressional inquiry. see chris floyd's excellent article on this weekends counterpunch:

The Internet won this election, not the MSM. With the impending death of the MSM, it looks like propaganda is losing its stranglehold.

Don't laugh. The Republican party is entirely capable of doing this and the American people, who already gave us George Wanker Bush and Cheesedick Cheney (twice), are entirely capable of voting them into power. Bush Limpdick is a crypto fascist, not merely an obese, bloviating, dope addled reactionary. And Joe the Bummer indeed truly represents a large portion of this nation. It could really happen. It's no joke. There is a majority stupid enough to do it. If the racial barrier can at last be broken, the stupidity/fanatical barrier can also be broken and we can have a government that makes Bush and Cheney appear moderate.
Yes M O R D E C H A I _ S H I B L I K O V,
It's almost always a joy to read your postings, but the laughter through tears about it not being a "joke" is cutting way too close to our vital stuff ( our illusions do sustain us ). Please do continue.
Thank you.
Namaste
as terrible as our elections are, that ain't gonna happen. a smarter, slimmer, younger rush, in the future, maybe (aka adolf jr.) joe the plumber, never. rush never debates anyone, b/c he can't. in any slightly adversarial format, he'd be laughed off the stage.
and what's so crypto about rush's fascism?
Limbaugh/Schwarzenegger 2012!
Not w/o constitutional changes, regardless of his desire -- the governator was born in Austria.
And McCain was born In Panama, but they found a way around that...
Palin/Joe the Plumber 2012: the ticket from hell.
"...an ideal Republican ticket would be led by Rush Limbaugh with Joe the Plumber as his running mate."
Bring it on! These two would destroy conservatism for ever.
Never criticize a man until you've walked a mile in their moccasins - Native American proverb.
I saw the title and thought, "Who's 'Joe'?" Now, if I could only similarly wonder, "Who's 'Rush'?"
"Now that that we all agree he’s the leader we can move on. It’s not too early to focus on the upcoming presidential elections in 2012 and it’s certainly not too early to suggest that an ideal Republican ticket would be led by Rush Limbaugh with Joe the Plumber as his running mate."
I would laugh, but as crazy as things are getting it just might happen. If Republicans want to commit political suicide by becoming Rushbots, that works for me - other than we would then for all practical intents a purposes have a one party political system.
Why don't we just quit the foreplay and have a Karl Rove vs Michael Moore mud sumo wrestling match?
"Moobs" Limbaugh. Pass it on, if you can without puking...
The axis of evil: Rush, Palin and Joe!
Joe the Plumber?!?! are you guys serious. This guy still matters to the left. For what reason? Because he asked Obama a tough question or because he has tax issues? We know tax issues are no big deal if you are on Obama's Cabinet or are Charles Rangel.
Isn't it time to MOVE ON and to deal with REAL issues. Or is that why the media wants to talk about Palin, Rush, and Joe 24/7???
JTP nor SP are not a continued interest of the "Left"... Despite what the Corporate owned "Liberal media" owners choose to put on the air to distract their regular viewers from the real issues of the day, and to turn the occasional viewer off of politics ingeneral as tabloid journalism... It is the continuation of the thirty year trend to "dumb down" the electorate and citizenry and constituency in the USA... And gives credence to the 20%ers who listen to Rush and vote for Bush/McCain who can claim that MSNBC and CNN are biased in favor of the Dems... All of this manufactured infighting is merely Kabuli theatre, to disguise how corporate media is imbred and imbedded in the MIC, and the beltway pundits are in bed together... Like Carville & Matlin... Leiberman & McCain... And the revolving door of MIC lobbyists/cabinet positions...
