Show Allmike, election's over, and shame is on you.
it's not too late, though, for you to join those who want to build the just alternative way of life OUTSIDE the crashing capitalist system.
I throw my hands up in the air in frustration when I hear Moore speak now. I hope Cenk of the Young Turks is serious, and will stick to his guns. I think Moore should listen to Cenk and get on the bandwagon and stop drinking the cool-aid. Because, really, nothing that Moore supposedly has been fighting for will happen under the Dems.
The Green Party is officially on the New York State ballot for the next four years!
I heard a lot of things that Obama could do this morning vis-a-vis the Repubs' dismantling of Obamacare. Obama is supposedly talking of making it better, considering getting rid of the onerous 1099 provision for small businesses. That one he may be able to do. But how does Obama -- beholden to the Medical Industrial Complex -- seriously work to make Obamacare better -- which, at the very least would mean a very, very strong public option -- and make his corporate cronies happy? I mean, I assume he's still fighting for that pot of gold for his campaign coffers, right?
Moore, wake up and smell the coffee. If you really want to work for real change convince what few real progressives there are in the Dem Party to join the Green Party and fire it up, or something completely different. As Cenk said in his video, primary, primary, primary.
And if Maddow was really passionate about DADT, she would stop drinking the cool-aid, too. But, wait, the reason she can't is that she is on MSNBC and she's making millions now. Can't go over that line, can you? Going over the corporate line, that's the problem.
Cenk crossed the line yesterday, Michael Moore. When you do that I'll listen again. I may even watch your movies. Otherwise you are just ranting.
I am really proud of the way I voted yesterday. I read a comment on my Facebook page yesterday -- not directed at me but on a Maddow story. The woman said anybody who didn't vote to support Obama on November 2nd should hang their head in shame.
That morning I read that Obama is looking to push through another trade agreement that Bush negotiated. No, I will not hang my head in shame. I am proud of the vote I cast the other day -- very proud of it -- and possibly for the first time in my life. At the age of 54 I listened to my own heart, I broke away from the status quo, I did not vote for the lesser of two evils, I did not vote to support a President I do not believe in. If I didn't support Bush, why the heck would I support Obama?
Regarding Obama's puny health care plan, it should be pointed out that most of his plan does not go into effect until 2014. Since a study that came out by the Harvard Medical School in 2009 revealed that 45,000 Americans did each year because they are unable to receive access to basic adequate health care, that then means that, unlike those countries which have universal health care, over 100,000 Americans will end up needlessly dead under the Democrats' plan.
And yet so many uninformed Americans wish us to believe that universal health care somehow does not work and that those countries which do have it [which amount to every other advanced country in the world] are supposedly inferior to what is allegedly the greatest country in the world. I think not.
Numbers, numbers, numbers are complicate stuff. How many Americans without Healthcare or how many will died? They are interested only in how much profit and how much bonuses they will received. PERIOD!
Michael, I watched the complete potion of your interview with Amy Goodman in DN, I came away knowing you understands and feel our pain. Than I watched your interviewed with Lawrence O'Donnell. I saw a different Michael Moore. Here you worship Obama. In DN you said if Obama comes out and tell us he will NOT take Corporate and Wall Streets money in 2012 and fight for us. We will put him back to the WH in 2012. You also said he is really a good guy. No kidding, he is a good guy? You should know many people died/suffer for his collective action/inaction in Iraq, Afghan, foreclosure, Palestine, Gaza and etc.? I could go on blah, blah...
Michael’s why are you still supporting Obama, what do hope to accomplish or your objective? Forget the DP! Obama will be one term president and definitely NOT a NICE or GOOD guy.
I can't help but bristle at the Obama nice-guy meme. When I picture Obama I see blood dripping from his hands -- that's all I see. If he were a truly good person and a nice person he could not live with himself -- the conflict would be too great.
"I can't help but bristle at the Obama nice-guy meme. " -- Samalabear
Me, too! I could expand on this, but I think you've said it as well as I could! Like you, I voted Green.
I'm really tired of the obsequious behavior displayed by Michael Moore, time and again, when he talks about the Democrats and Obama.
Obama is NOT on our side! Therefore, we need to take the fork in the road, and travel a different path.
BTW -- Glenn Greenwald is speaking at NYU -- Vanderbilt Hall, the Greenberg Lounge, 40 Washington Square in NYC on Friday, tomorrow, November 5, 2010. He is only one of the speakers. The subject is the 1st Amendment. The event begins at 9 AM, and ends at 5 PM, and is FREE of charge.
Indeed.
To repeat myself. The real political parties in this country are the winners and the losers. Both the democrats and the republicans are like puppets being moved by the elite. There's not going to be a revolution in the streets, because America has become a police state. So just relax, go get your food stamps, and listen/watch to your latest electronic device made by Chinese slave labor, while America becomes another third world country.
"will the progressives vote for conservatives, or the fake conservatives?"
they will probably vote for the progrssive 3rd party.
One of the biggest reasons for the slaughter in the House was people like Moore crying that everyone had to hold our noses and vote Democrat, no matter it how un-progessive they were.
Progress only comes through change. Yesterday you got change. Probably not the change you wanted. Maybe now people will actually do something and hold their elected officials to their promises.
But I highly doubt it.
Cause money talks, voters walk.
O'Donnell keeps trying to rescue the "old conservative" from the "modern conservative".
The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.
John Kenneth Galbraith
"Maybe now people will actually do something and hold their elected officials to their promises."
How? what possible way can any of us "hold our officials to their promises?" Obama broke almost every single campaign promise he ever made, with the exception of expanding the war in Afghanistan and kow-towing to Israel - he stuck to both of those and then some. Ditto most of the Congresscritters. Or which is more common: not making any campaign promises, just vague gestures that are not defined like "restoring dignity to America," or "getting people back to work." Such promises are easy to "keep," since no clear, definitive promise was actually made. And that is the whole point.
But even when our elected whores, er, politicians make concrete, measurable promises, and then renege on them (like Senator Obushma when he said he would vote against the FISA act, but then 180'd), the American sheeple go right ahead and elect or re-elect them anyway. Listen to Michael Moore. "By God, we'll hold these democrats to account or they won't get our votes next time." What a crock of shit. He said the same thing 2 years ago, and Obama screwed him and the rest of us over utterly. And yet here he is, 2 years later, saying "No, THIS time, we'll hold them to account or they won't get our votes next time." And in 2 years, Moore will be RIGHT BACK HERE saying the SAME THING again: "Hold your nose and vote for Obama, even though he fucked us over the last 4 years, and we will hold him to account."
Blah blah blah. It isn't enough to "punish" the Dems for breaking their campaign rhetoric, because the Dems don't care. They are the Washington Generals, and they know the average American voter will eventually vote the Dems back into power after the Rethugs have been in power a few years, like an insane see-saw, and NEVER vote third party. Back and forth, back and forth.
Only by voting third party will we ever enact real change in this country. The Dems and Rethugs are 100% corporate whores working for the same masters on the same team. Forget holding either of them to account.
"When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag, carrying a cross."
Demonstorm,
Well stated.
It looks like the notorious stupidity of the American people is not limited to the right wing racists and theocrats but thoroughly permeates the liberal democratic community as well.
Moore is lost, desperate, and his pleas are now sounding completely delusional. That must be why he's on MSM. The more he becomes a cheerleader and 'coach' for professional corporate politicians, the more frequently he can appear. He's wrong about people supporting the left democrats--Feingold and Grayson were both toasted. We are headed for more war and fascism. Face the music.
BTW, Obama did nothing for young people who voted for him--maybe that is why they did not show up this time. The minimum wage was not even addressed. Obamacare is a joke. Obama is just a CEO of a corporation and he is TOLD what to do. Why doesn't Moore understand this?
It seems that Moore still hopes that Obama can wake up or be "saved". It's hard to imagine when on election night Obama's main message was "we were shellacked" and yes, we'll be talking to (working with?) the Republicans. He's been doing this all along. It's a lose-lose-lose idea.
When will he start talking to and listening to and acting on the hopes (haha) of his (former) base --the progressives/liberals/Democrats/youth and so on!!!??? After last night, it looks like it will be never....
The insiders may have the money, but the American people still do have the choice to vote. Democrats stayed home--that is not a vote. It has the same effect as Obama's focus on reaching across the aisle--it gives Republicans the power. They have a plan and it isn't nice...
The subheading to yesterday's elections in my newspaper today is:
"Speaker-in-waiting, president say they need to 'listen to the... people'".
If that is supposedly the case then the Republicans and Obama should finally begin to withdraw ALL the troops from Afghanistan and Iraq as well as finally implementing a universal health care plan that will cover everyone and not just some people in this country.
If you read Huffpo today you will see that barry is already talking about working with the repugs on taxes and such things. I knew that he was an asshole (too late) but now it will be in your face treason. Tony
Moore suffers from as severe a case of denial-itis as Katrina vanden Heuvel, whose sorry performance on Colbert's clown show we were served here yesterday.
Same advice: it's time to retire to Florida, in a nice comfortable condo, Michael, perhaps right next to Katrina, so the two of you can exchange fond liberal memories.
"they" obviously threatened to NOT provide mike with any security and protection from the rightwing nuts who have made numerous attempts at his and his families life, unless he tow the line.
This is so funny and surreal. There are people here that actually still believe that someone can do the job and save America. I can not stop laughing. It is also sad because it seems everyone is drinking the kool-aid. I am sorry to inform you that no one and thats a big no one can do anything about this mess. The fed just threw another 600 billion at the mess and it will do no good what so ever. We have truly gone one toke over the line and there aint no going back. Now we have to listen the Repubs crow and how they are going to fix everything. Hahahaha
And after a few years of the Rethugs blatantly screwing the average American over (as opposed to the Democrats gently screwing the average American over), the American sheeple will do another 180 and vote the Dems back into power, and be gently screwed for a few years, before getting pissed and doing another 180 and voting the Rethugs back into power, for yet another harder screwing.
This insane see-saw the American electorate continues to enthusiastically endorse is the very definition of lunacy. Every couple of years, they switch between the two, despite years and years of being screwed by both parties. Will the American sheep NEVER wake up to third parties??
"When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag, carrying a cross."
"We have truly gone one toke over the line"
But not in California where Prop 19 died on the vine.
Yes I thought that was interesting since Marijuana is California's biggest cash crop. The growers and dealers must have voted against it to keep the prices high.
Bless your heart, Michael, but sadly, you still do not get it!
Voting for either Rethuglican or Demonrat will do no good, ever! EVER!
Worse, sending letters, videos, et al. to O-blah, blah, blah-ma is a total waste of your time and energy!
Instead:
Read Derrick Jensen's ENDGAME, Vols 1 and 2. If reading the book is just too much to swallow, at least read Derrick's premises for ENDGAME here:

Moore can't really be this dumb. Although it was Lawrence O'Donnell himself who said yesterday that the Dems lost because of too much liberalism from their side, too much liberal noise scaring voters into the Repug camp. Greenwald wrote about this. It's become a favorite meme of the MSNBC punditocracy, that liberals and progressives have sunk Dems chances, because Americans are just so conservative and want to think they're voting for centrist Dems at the very extreme. Anything left of center is just too scary for American voters.
This is what O'Donnell and others at MBNBC are pushing, and no doubt Moore gives it a lot of credence. That's why Moore can't veer anywhere left of the "progressive" contingent in the Dem Party. So he has to plead with Obama to live up to his "campaign promises" and assorted bilge, for Obama to man up and stick it to the Repugs, as if this had any basis whatsoever in the real world. Moore is as deluded as the president he's pleading with to become a Real Progressive. What a hopeless mess.
Why do you keep posting things from Michael Moore? He is a decent film maker, but a terrible political commentator.
It was Obama’s election to lose, and he did it well. That nothing will pass in the next two years may be a blessing, though I doubt it.
I didn’t vote for him, but when he was elected I at least had hope for the change he promised. Then Day 2 came and it started falling apart. Now he has lost the House in the mid-terms and we are at the mercy of the even more corrupt, John Boehner.
Obama got the R’s elected, for the same reasons Bush got him elected: terrible leadership.
His appointments have been atrocious; Larry Summers, Tim Geithner, Rahm Emanuel, lobbyists for the financial and health care industries. And we criticized Dick Cheney and his Enron and oil company co-conspirators?
SEE: http://moneyedpoliticians.net/2010/11/03/obamas-election-to-lose-and-he-did/
Psssh, you forgot Eric Holder, he let the Wall Street and Bank crooks' walk free, especially Goldman Sachs - Lloyd Blankfein and Countrywide Bank - Angelo Mazilo. If Obama did nothing to help homeowners at least prosecute them. Put them behinds bars for the rest of their lives and confiscate all their ill-gotten asset!
Michael Moore hit the nail on the head: Push as much legislation through as possible in the Lame Duck session - - especially allowing the tax cuts for the rich expire - - good riddance of bad rubbish, and the best way to start making some headway on deficit reduction! But the Democrats have to push and be crafty in the process of getting their agenda through in the limited time they have left. It can be done!!!
I'm soooooo tired of Mr. Moore and his pathetic suggestions to try to "help" the Dems.
The Dems DON'T CARE.
The Dems ARE REPUBLICANS.
HELLO!
Moore needs to stop shilling for this corporate Party.
At one time, I liked Moore, now I just think he's pathetic apologist for the Democratic Party.
I agree Chelsey. I admit I do admire Michael's work, and his films have done a lot of good in terms of waking up some people to certain ugly realities about our government that perhaps they would normally avoid (although it has been argued his films are only watched by those on the "left", thus preaching only to the choir). But his continued shilling for the Democratic Party, Inc. is really making it difficult for me to maintain any objectivity I have in my view of him and his work. If he could simply wake up to the reality that the Dems and Rethugs are flip sides of the same coin, he could channel all that creative energy into REALLY making a difference in this country.
"When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag, carrying a cross."
Work on ways to decrease importing foreign oil. Plenty of jobs will be created. 60% of deficit goes to buying foreign oil. The faster we create alternative energy solutions the better off we will be. We should make a graph of how much oil we buy. Then we should do everything possible to show progress by making line go down. 300 billion to 200 billion a year would show progress. 300 billion to 400 billion would show failure. Up would add to deficit and dependence and down would subtract from deficit and indicate measurable progress. Will put America to work now. Invest in future. Invest in solutions to bring the deficit down. Biggest solution is alternative energy.
