Bruce Livesey: While free trade wiped out Mexico's traditional agriculture, the drug cartels moved in
Flourishing drug demand in the U.S. and Canada has combined with the destruction of Mexico's traditional economy to increase the power of the Mexican drug cartels. At the same time, the cartels are at war over the drug market in Mexico, with drastic results including the recent massacre of 72 undocumented migrants in Northern Mexico.

NAFTA has had a devestating effect on the eocnomy here in Mexico and forced millons of people to migrateto the USA and look for the "american dream" o work for the drug cartels here in Mexico. It is a choice of survival...eating or starving. These poor people have been forced into this terrible mess by their government. And now the US is sending in millons of dollars and weapons to battle the "war on drugs". The answer in NOT violence as we know. We need to answer why the USA need to be a nation of sedation. Why the society needs to sedate themselves to survive. Capitalism in NOT the answer...there are many other options...educate yourselves and look into the alternative systems. The tide is rising...a change is comming...wake up you silly gringos!
NAFTA benefits the oligarchs in Mexico, as well as the oligarchs in the U.S. It is hurting working people in the U.S., just as it is in Mexico. The NAFTA Treaty was signed by Mexico, Canada and the U.S.
Do you accept the fact that NAFTA is a creation of the rich in all three countries?
Are you aware that 25% of children in the U.S. are going hungry every day?
Do you favor legalization of marijuana, which would allow cultivation in the U.S. and effectively dismantle the Mexican drug cartels—as happened with organized-crime in the U.S. when Prohibition (of alcohol) was repealed?

When you have an insatiable hunger for recreational drugs, of course you are going to find ways of assuaging the craving. This is the US don't forget and capitalism is the name of the game. It's simply market forces at work for the almighty dollar, profit, proceeds, filthy lucre, supply and demand. Isn't that what America is all about? So come on now, let's legalize and pursue a legitimate profit from the trade. It will accomplish one main goal and that is the decimation of drug lord's profits. It will also free up policing agents to pursue real criminals and will reduce the blood on the streets of both the US and Mexico.
I didn't realize that the US was the only country with a drug culture. oh Canada too, eh?
Well anyway, glad the other 7 billion don't do drugs!
The division of the world for profit is a dangerous endeavor. As in changing the direction of a brick laid in a wall, compromising all surrounding bricks to compensate for the altered one. Those who carve this world up for gain are destroying the people, nations and cultures worldwide to do so. America leads the way, and is supposedly a nation governed by the consent of the governed... NOT SO ANYMORE... Today there are but two choices...damned if ya do...damned if ya dont. (republicans & democrats)
