'Fortress Toronto' Set for G20
The Canadian city of Toronto has launched a massive security operation as it prepares to host the G20 summit of leaders of the world's largest economies.
Thousands of police are being deployed for the summit with many residents questioning the estimated $1bn cost of the operation.
Al Jazeera's Imtiaz Tyab reports.

Show AllWhen you are confined to a base/fortress you dare not leave, and must garrison the perimeter to prevent even casual contact, you have lost mobility, and therefore the war. You have become tactically reactive, unable to think outside the 'incursion/retaliation' loop.

What was the matter with the G7 meeting in Iqaluit. It was good for a cocktail party for the officeholders and it did not bother anyone except the citizens of that community. Why not have a permanent site for these meetings on some island, say in the Orkneys or Gothab or Spitzbergen. They could meet all they want and not bother the useful people of society.
Is this meeting only a schoolboys 'thumb to the nose' for them to say "I am the king of the castle and you are not".
