Show AllIt's always black as night at that ocean level. I marvel at the brightness of the lighting and the quality of the pictures. Day or night at the surface should have no effect on the quality of the photos/videos. Even if they have a shortage of tecnicians such that they can't work three shifts, they could still leave cameras pointed at ALL of the leaks which do not take third shift off. Maybe some of the video equipment or the seemingly autonomous robotic marine vehicles need to surface for recharging batteries?
Yeah, but check it out now..."not recording" I agree with you...should be dark all day long a mile down..but during the day the leak looks bright and at night it fades to dark to not recording....it's performance environmental disaster.... and that's just when they find the need to stop pumping...what's really going on??? Oh heartbreak..oh despair...oh anger...oh fear...oh, oh, oh what to do about the disaster in the gulf and in DC?
BTW, my money is on nuclear sub and timed filming at the "request"/instruction of the corporate masters. the clarity and illumination is too good for such depth compared to anything I've ever seen before...must conclude military...
Here is a set of seven animations that illustrate what appears to be going on:

The BBC doesn't have a clue what Top Kill is!
Total BS, shows what a news person knows about oil wells.
Top Kill is when you pump mud down the pipe yes, but it's really complicated to do it right. It's not about throwing a bunch of mud down the pipe! You have to balance the "top" side and the "backside", monitor flows, pressure, temperature, fracture pressure...
You could have an underground flow from one zone to another taking all your mud! It's called a downhole blowout! That's what the "junk shot" is all about. Plugging up a movement of oil between two zones of different pressure. Dealing with those movements of oil below ground takes someone with lot of EXPERIENCE; there are the few who know how to recognize and handle downhole blowouts!
BP is just a regular CORPORATION doing what most CORPORATIONS do.
After the medical care for profit ripoffs, the financial "crisis", and this oil spew, it must be apparent that CORPORATIONS either cannot or will not bring the kinds of results that make a sound, viable nation/society.
The for-profit CORPORATE BUSINESS FORM is at the root of most, if not all of the threats and problems we face.
CORPORATIONS are a greater threat than Al Qaida to a decent way of life.
Yet, large-scale organized response may be a big factor in surviving the coming climate shift. We cannot afford CORPORATE business as usual. We cannot afford PROFIT.
CORPORATIONS must be re-defined to directly benefit society as a whole, and soon.
Corp is Borg.
I sure would like to hear Obama call this a spill now like
he did yesterday. What is he still calling this a spill for?
BP and their coverup buddies in our gov can't hide how much
is spewing out of there now.
Don't you believe Obama would look good in a ten gallon had
like Salazar's.,, or better yet like Hoss on Pondarosa.
A big western belt buckle, one of those ties, you know what
I mean , goes around ur neck , those western cord ones, and
of course, a nice pair of pointed toe western boots
Obama look pretty sharp, get some more votes tooo..
Would this fit the bill?

"Presidential candidate Barack Obama tips a cowboy hat given to him by a volunteer after a rally in Austin, TX, on Feb. 23, 2007. Between 15-20,000 people gathered at a concert venue and waited through drizzly weather to hear Obama speak."
exactlly , thanks
It says "This live event has concluded"
Obviously, the event hasn't, but the video coverage of it has .....
Gee, I wonder why?
This NBC live feed is done, hope CD will post live feed from another source as they are on Oil Drum ...
I think that NBC's coverage has ended because you can go to the BP live site or the oil drum site and still watch it. CD just needs to change the channel.
I wish someone would tell us what is going on with all the robotic arms and twisting and hand offs from one arm to another, etc, that they are doing now. I hate to say this, but I find watching it fascinating.
This "live" stream ain't too live. I think CD needs to find a new site.
I know they might hate to use a BP video site - but that seems to be where the action is, besides which, what better way to hit BP than out of its own "pipe TV", unless. of course, one thinks it's being "doctored" (the video, that is) ....
THIS is "reality TV"
I , like many here , read all the posts over on
the Oil Drum's coverage...
Did anyone notice what I noticed over there???
I am old enough to remember the day when the federal government would have taken charge immediately. The government had all the resources at hand to handle most
situations.
Of course, I can also remember the day when corporations
trembled and feared at just the thought of OSHA coming in
to inspect their plant.
I can remember the day when the Food and Drug Admistration
really inspected food and drugs. You can't be any younger
than me to remember these things . (61)
As of this posting the video embedded with this article is showing vertical stream that looks like a thick black fluid or gas. They are not showing the exact source of the flow.
I haven't read the posts here, so apologies if someone has already said this:
Several news sources are reporting that the "top kill" has failed.
I knew it was a long shot, but I'm very saddened and worried nevertheless.
"I'm familiar with the Gulf region. It's a beautiful area..."
Correction. It *WAS* a beautiful area. It is now the world's largest toxic waste dump and impending Superfund site.
Our government and their media supporters are nothing
but WHORES.
nothing but whores, nothing but whores, nothing but whores,
nothing but whores, nothing but whores, nothing but whores
N O T H I N G B U T W H O R E S ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
not really being fair to sincere sex workers, none of whom would ever sink to such depravity
Did anyone have to do what I did and quick click off
Obama's Memorial Day message before they puked ????
Eugenio Costa....come back, I miss your political humor and
wit.
Top Hat Killer failure is official. Suttles raises white flag. On to LMRP, which apparently has even lower odds of succeeding.
Gulf of Mexico, RIP
Top Kill---dead.
I sent Biden a plan that might work if there is a clear shot from the top of the BOP to the wellpipe under it. (yes, I'm just loose enuf to do that...)
BP is talking about cutting the top of the BOP off even, so they can try to snap on a cap, or snap a sleeve on and progressively close the hole.
My plan involves REBAR. Picture 20' X 1/4" and 1/2" rebar linked together with 21" breakable links (or heavy chain), lowered from the surface into the hole, every tenth one set to break as it enters the hole to let 10 pcs free-fall until they get jammed on the inside of the pipe at a joint, or the bottom of the hole. Repeat as necessary to create a jam-up that restricts the flow enough for the mud/concrete fix to work.
Rebar is heavy enough to fall through the pressure of the oil, and, if rigged with cuts/jam-producing imperfections, would probably ball up readily.
A string of rebar could be lowered from a surface vessel, maneuvered and snipped by an ROV. A longer, heavier train of rebar might be able to pull a lump of something into the hole to further restrict the flow.
So, I guess I'll just have a beer, put my feet up, and watch as Florida is transformed into what looks like an oil dipstick off an old Chevy.
Come on, Iceage!
that live stream is bloody bizarre.....................
The government clearly needs to step in. BP very much so has always focused on capturing the leaking oil rather than plugging the hole. Look at its first attempts - it used a chamber that supposedly channeled the oil into a nearby tanker. They could have plugged this hole right at the start but that's not their focus. Corporations don't care about the damage they cause - the bottom line is profit at whatever means it takes. We pay taxes to the government to keep us safe from such disasters. Sure BP is responsible but the first concern is to stop the leak. With all of our technology, there must be a way to plug the hole or cap it but it must be the priority rather than trying to capture the crude.
And yes there was a time when government agencies held corporations to accountability and safety codes, but those agencies are now run by former corporate officers and/or honor the wishes of full time corporate lobbyists.
The wild out of control oil leak seems symbolic of government corruption. It's so big, damaging, and beyond the control of average citizens.
What's that little white flare coming out of the pipe? Is it a flame? Are they trying to cut the pipe?
I think you seeing a light shining from behind for the cameras.
No, I thought it was lights at first too, but there is a long thin pipe spewing something, it almost looks like they are spraying dispersant into the oil gushing from the top of the blow out preventor. That pipe is pretty rigid and thin and has definitely been spewing something directly into the oil for days now. Check the hoses going to the base of the long thin pipe.
They are attempting to cut the top off.
Once they cut through are they going to be able to see what they are doing???
is video from the huge billowing leak that we've seen from that pipe along the ocean floor, part of the piping AFTER the riser leak? Or is it at the base of the BOP which would be a pressure point before the riser.
We need a map of the leaks from an independent source.
We definatly need an indepentent to show leaks
Friday evening, they showed them lifting one of the
ROVs to surface..
Right after that they put a camera on a big huge gusher
coming from the ocean floor, this stayed for a while, it
appeared to be a gush the size of the whole diameter of the
rizor., it was shooting stright up from the ocean floor
then saturday they showed , the leak at the rizor part
that is laying on the ocean floor horizonally.
Now they have the cracked rizor that they are cutting.
None of this is adding up.
The vertical gush was not connected to anything, so how
could crude get to the end of the rizor that is laying
horizonally on the ocean floor.
If someone has an explanation please, I am confused
Why would a criminal show the scene of their crime?
This live stream is SO staged. Where is the oil gushing? How can the water be so clear?
On another topic: BP is denying the existence of the enormous plumes of oil under the surface. My feeling is that they are denying it becuase it speaks to a much larger gush that they are keeping from the media.
common sense plumber says: cut back to good pipe and put a cap on it. From the video it looks like they could take that diamond saw, cut the bolts off that connect that top flange, and then you've got a nice clean flange to work with. Slap a cap or a blow up plug on there and that would take care of the riser leak
There is plenty of room to unbolt that piece on top and bolt or clamp down a valve in the open position. Once the valve is in place and tight, shut it.
"why would a criminal show the scene of a crime"
exactly..
I would still like to know where that big gusher that I
saw Friday night into Saturday morning is...
What was that gusher, they haven't shown it again?
Where is that gusher that i know I saw
that was coming from the sea floor,
there was no rizor attached to it !!!!!!
still photo before you start the live feed on the oil drum. crater oil gushing
Check out these illustrations.

Without a live commentary probably from BP, this live feed is about as informative as watching paint dry. They ain’t going to show anything which will make them look any more incompetent that many are saying they have been. Why don’t they really be transparent and provide audio from the rov operators or engineers controlling the operation? We won’t mind the bad language!
looks like they have half of the riser cut at the well head just above the top flange and are re-orienting to cut from the other side to finish the cut.
lots of oil leaking thru the cut.
it will be interesting to see what happens when they cut all the way thru
I'm watching this feed it has two views:
Guys, I'm out here in Asia with slow bandwidth, so I can't do streaming....
You guys are my eyes and ears.
I was very suspicious from the start that this one narrow pipe riser was the whole problem. Usually, when you're at a site, there are adjacent test wells that have been drilled prior to the real one. Maybe the Methane explosion took out all the well heads.
This means the riser is a red herring and that all this live feed chit is just to keep the public mesmerized about how "hard" BP is working to stop the mess, when in reality, they don't want to tell us that they've opened Pandora's Box and there's nothing they can do to fix the unstable sea floor. Multiple volcanos is more like it.
And further, some feel that the relief wells in several months don't have a good chance of stopping this either.....
Without the government stepping in and doing their job for once, this is probably all just a charade.
A Greek Tragedy, A global slimer....
(sorry, I'm just trying to prepare myself for "Waterworld" with oil sheens, then if it doesn't happen, I can be pleasantly surprised...)
TJ
I can't even get it to load.
I honestly don't think they want to fix this problem. They'd have it fixed by now if they wanted to. Christ, what would a plumber do?
If they really gave a shit about the planet, this wouldn't have happened in the first place.
Have windmills, solar panels, and underwater polymers wreaked this much havoc?
Cut the bolts holding the two flanges together on top of the bo preventor. Lower an opened, flange valve with screw clamps onto the good flange on top of the bo preventor. Once it is secure, shut the valve. They had a diamond blade saw that can cut thick steel fairly easy. They cut the bad riser pipe out of the way, but left the last bit of badly cut pipe connected by six to eight flange bolts. It is over this un sealable, badly cut pipe that they put the thing that is supposedly sucking oil to the top. It doesn't look like it slowed down a bit from before.
My thoughts exactly! When they said they couldn't get a good seal on the jagged riser pipe; I knew then they were doing something stupid.
(A flange connects two pipes together under high pressure. The two halves are bolted together with a steel ring clamped in the center that acts as a seal.)
On the first flange down, they need to grab below the bottom half; and seal against the rim on the top half. IT WOULDN'T LEAK! Unless they sliced it with that diamond saw.
They could of taken a BIG shear and snipped the top; lowered the boom and be done with her. They know all the measurements!
WORSE THAN STUPID!
Oh Yea, anybody that has tried to cut pipe with a hack saw knows about getting it stuck!
I really don't care what they are showing ,,,I know what
I saw Friday nite coming from the ocean floor, to make sure
that was seeing what I was seeing , I called a woman friend
up who lives in MD. and asked her to tune in.
We both watched the ROV , with camera on, go from the ocean
bottom and float on the surface, whether it was just the
camera or not , we don't know but BP later that night said
they pulled it up.
About a half an hour after this, they showed a gusher, coming
from the sea floor, I believe it is where the BOP was
supposed to be.. I call Heather again and asked her to tune
in to see the gusher she saw it too.
It was not attached to anything, just a round gusher blowing
straight up.....nothing around it, and nothing attached to it.
The Friday night incident is the only suspicious event
with these videos, that is just why the government at least
should have had their own monitering of this , with their
own cameras, that they didn't makes this even more suspicious.
The website Oil Drum that everyone and their brother was
clicking on to find information from the very first top kill
has also been very suspicious and everyone of their so called
experts that tried to spit out technical terms to loose
everyone, got proved wrong, every, every time.
I also believe that the government is a lot more involved
with this than they a letting on because it is a whole lot
worse than what they are letting on.
I know what I saw !!!
Heather and I watched that camera come all the way to
the surface and there were white and thick methane hydrates
all the way to the top, in turbulant water, now the
turbulance could be attributed for the ride to the top but
it was extra tubulant.
I bet dollars to donuts that the BOP got blown off the
well head, and that is the gusher we saw about a half hour
later, that was only showed about two hours then gone forever
We won't know for at least six weeks, for they are going
to admit that there is a little leak on top the rizor which
accounts for the oil coming up, however there is so much
gushing, they won't be able to hide it all, they are believing they can get by with this lie until the the relief
well is drilled. the government is definitly in one this
scam.
All the top kill and containment they have been showing for
the last several days is entertainment and a animation.
