Cornell West Talks with Avi Lewis about Empire, Obama, Poverty, and More
He was the first African-American to get a PhD in philosophy at Princeton.
He went on to write more than 20 books, receive more than 20 honourary degrees, to teach at Harvard and Yale, and hold classes at universities from Paris to Addis Abeba.
With his latest hip hop CD he was named "MTV's artist of the week", and he has provided futuristic philosophical commentary on all three Matrix movies.
In a famous spat with the then president of Harvard University he called Lawrence Summers "the Ariel Sharon of higher education."
Avi Lewis talks to Cornel West, a professor of African American Studies at Princeton, hip hop artist, and one of the most controversial academics in the US, about the state of democracy for African-Americans today, the Obama administration, and his dispute with Lawrence Summers.
He also shares his views on US foreign policy, the war in Afghanistan, global recession, and the growing pressure on Barack Obama.

Show AllProfessor West tells the truth. For further scholarly documentation of our empire read Chalmers Johnson's "The Sorrow of Empire".
I was going to say exactly the same. These "socialists" are more interested in regulated capitalism and more social welfare. The only reason to support Democrats is it's easier to see the problems with electionism, centralized governments when the supposed "good" party somehow keeps maintaining the status quo as established under the "bad" party. Without force from the ground, they do not budge. The only solution is from the ground, and then the "good" party will budge (the "bad" party may react more harshly), but that's background that doesn't matter. They budge to retain power, to quell our discontent. This is nice in the short term, but should not be the solution we're aiming for (because then we become passive once again, they then ignore us again, and we start over, or the right takes power and simply reacts against us with little fear of losing their jobs).
Mr. Cornell West speaks truth to power and maybe a prophet of our times..."The time has come" "It is an era in conflict, a time of war. The time has come when humanity is about to be consumed be a great conflagration." Most Venerable Nichidatsu Fujii, Milton Keynes Dojo, 1980.
The time has come, Citation from: The Great collection Sutra...Circa 2500 BBC. Be a witness, nice sweet words from an empire does not make it so...
Yes liberals tilt. But liberals turn on a dime too. Especially when push comes to shove.

Obama is proving a BIG disappointment, not only to Americans, but to the entire world. He should be made to return the Nobel Prize which he most certainly does NOT deserve.
