Show AllObama just makes me physically ill now. The lies dripping from his mouth in this "town hall" were disgusting.
Abbywood,
I would work for Kucinich too.
Samalabear,
I agree--Obama makes me sick too. I must turn the channel when I see him on TV. I just can't bear to listen to him anymore.
I've come such a long way since 2008--when I loved to hear Obama speak--yeah, I know--what a fool I was!
I can't remember the last time that I heard a politician make his case so clearly and convincingly.
Sadly, the trolls will jump on Kucinich (again!) for (a) remaining in the Democratic party and (b) using the term "public option" instead of "single payer." They'll do anything to try to make this man look bad.

PS Olbermann's sub gets a C- for this interview. Yes, he let Kucinich explain his position for the most part but he also played dumb at times.
To me O' Donnell seemed like a tool for Rahm Emanuel. "Get Kucinich on the air and browbeat him into submission. I'd do it myself but he doesn't go to the Congressional gym where I can catch him in the showers and poke my finger into his chest and scream at him". (Allegedly what he did to Rep. Massa).
Didn't work.
I wish Kucinich would run against Obama in 2012 for the Democratic Primary. I'd not only vote for him, I'd do fundraisers and and work for him full-time with no pay.
He is the ONLY Democrat who walks the true Progressive walk and talks the talk on ALL issues that are important to our country.
We should all call his office and thank him for his principled stand!
To my knowledge Olbermann has never had Kucinich on his show.
For some unknown reason Olbermann avoids Dennis.
Kudos to To Lawrence O'Donnell for bringing him on.
Rahm probably veal pens journalists and roughs them up just like he does to electeds...its the way Chicago gangsters operate.
MSNBC sucks-- and all corporate cable media news for that matter!
He tells the truth. He will never be elected to the presidency. But, I will continue to give him money to run for any office. He is a good man.
I will add, having heard the rest, that I don't understand how people could listen to Kucinich, not get it and vote in loud numbers against Obamacare.
Obama is a slippery agent. As Kucinich says, Obama sounds like he's talking about Medicare for All. Obama needs Americans to be dumbed-down and not intellectually curious and distracted by the glitz in order to pull this off.
Americans, Repugs and Dems are star struck and will not let facts get in the way of a celebrity's great story.
Once the Obama family became celebrities, the facts became irrelevent to most Americans.
Dr. Angel reached a similar conclusion. The only question is how quickly Obamacare will unravel. Will it begin almost immediately as the mandate is imposed or will it take more time as is apparently happening in Massachusettts. I believe the mandate will be unpopular but it will also save private insurers from the "Death Spiral" in the short term. It will delay real reform.
Something that would hassen the end of Obamacare would be to see Single Payer succeed in Pennsylvania or California while Obamacare fails nationally. That is where our efforts as Single Payer advocates should be focused.
Hi tammons:
I'll give all of you an update on what's happening in California right now regarding the state going for Single Payer.
I attended a meeting of Single Payer activists Sunday in Los Feliz. There was a representative there from California OneCare (website is: www.californiaonecare.org ).
He gave us the general idea of how he sees Single Payer coming to California:
California OneCare launched it's campaign for Single Payer on March 1st, 2010 to support S.B. 810 which is the State Senate bill originally passed by Sheila Kuhl. It is expected that the State Assembly will pass it soon and the Gov. Schwartzenegger will veto it AGAIN. (Although former State Senator Jackie Goldberg thought he might sign it because he's "looking for a legacy").
According to a study done by the Lewin Group in 2005, passing Single Payer in California would create a $300 billion SURPLUS over ten years!
In November, it is anticipated that Jerry Brown will be elected Governor. His main rival, Meg Whitman, will most likely buy her Republican primary and then she'll try to BUY the governorship. But I think the fact that she thinks the governor's seat is up for sale, coupled with the facts that she's an opportunistic carpet-bagger, failed to vote for YEARS and is coming in on the heals of a failed REPUBLICAN governor....well, I think she'll be shut out.
So, we have Governor Brown (again!) in November. In the summer of 2011 the State Senate and Assembly pass Single Payer AGAIN and in the fall of 2011 Brown will sign it, especially once he's convinced of the numbers crunching that was done by the conservative Lewin Group.
But not so fast!!!! The champagne will only be flowing for a short time and the hang-over will hit at the beginning of 2012 when all the insurance corporations (financed by AHIP etc.) will launch a State Initiative to KILL SINGLE PAYER. That will be on the ballot in November of 2012. It will be defeated resoundingly and California OneCare will go into effect January 1, 2013 for all legal residents of California.
IF (and obviously it's a big IF), this happens as I suggest, then California will be like Saskatchewan was to Canada many years ago when Single Payer was launched by Tommy Douglas (who is the #1 National Hero in Canada).
Once the system is in place and is running like a fine-tuned Mercedez Benz, the rest of the country will clamor for what we have and hopefully the rest will be history.
If you'd like to help, please go to the website I linked and get involved! It would be PERFECT to get the rest of the country to chip in to help us make Single Payer a reality in California!
Where goes California....so goes the rest of the nation!
When I recently heard that Jerry was the likely Democratic Party candidate, my thoughts paralleled Abbybwood's analysis.
Jerry Brown was the best governor California had during the 38 years I lived there. California would be in far worse shape today if Brown had not been governor. Brown's successor drove me out of the state post haste. Californians need to work hard to assure that Brown wins in November.
Go California!
We still need to rescind that federal law which allows private insurers to sue states which adopt single-payer systems. The law is clearly unconstitutional but not before the most fascistic Supreme Court in US history.

Dennis Kucinich is about the only Democrat with the guts to speak the truth about how the Obama administration has been bought by the insurance industry. Even being a conservative, I would vote for Dennis for President, and feel good about it. He is one truly honest politician.
Calling Mr. Kucinich a "liberal" in Congress is wrong. It's become a dirty word. Mr. Kucinich is a Man. The only living man in Washington.
One of 435 members of the House. "Never be elected"? The only man at all worthy to become President. He's got my vote. Healthcare, the corporations and economy, the wars. Mr. Kucinich is the only one talking my language.
No Republican; no Democrat. It's the man that counts. Kucinich is the Man.
(apologies for the pronoun sexism).
Kucinich should be president. He is the only current Democrat I would ever vote for for president.
"Between the idea
And the reality
Between the motion
And the act
Falls the shadow"
Obama is trying desperately to get a bill passed and at the same time, carefully protecting the health industry's bottom line. He has never actually supported the critical improvements we need, only given them such sweet lip service . . . Our democracy has now become a plutocracy where we the people have no real voice, while those with the big money can decide everything for their own benefit.
Considering the pressure Kucinich is facing, Massa's reports of Rahm/Pelosi/Hoyer hard pushing for his vote and jumping on his questionable behavior is easier to believe in this political climate, even though, as an alleged closeted homosexual (?), that kind of behavior wouldn't seem so unlikely. I suppose that being in the closet could mess someone up pretty bad after that many years -another reason to end DADT.
I'm kicking myself that I didn't vote for Kucinich, even if I didn't think he could possibly win.
Those here have probably already seen it, but here it is again: the youtube clip of then IL State Senator Obama enthusiastically expressing his support for a single universal medicare for all plan in the early stages of his campaign for the Illinois Democratic Senate primary back in 2003 or early 2004.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpAyan1fXCE
Candidates change their positions, but too often for the worse.
The Dems took back the White House, Senate, and House of Reps in 2008, but Obama and too many other Dems still can't take a stand against those throwing the big campaign donations their way.
I voted for Kucinich every time he was on a ballot. I heard him speak once....he is a man of integrity. When I thought it was going to be just another political rally, he fooled me by actually presenting a beautiful and reasoned "discussion." He is such a breath of fresh air in the stinking political pit of this country that I cannot understand how he could put up with it!?
My concern is that since he is one of very few honest voices, how could "they" let him survive? Imagine if Dennis Kucinich was standing at a podium (as President), verbalizing the truth's he verbalizes? Do you think the powers that be....from all sides.....political, corporate, foreign, would actually give him one single inch?!
Dennis is a voice of the people. He speaks truth to power. He is the voice of "everyman!" He is our model....the model we all need to internalize. Dennis's voice is how we all need to sound! What he says, we all need to be saying...out loud!!!
Very well said!
Indeed!
I spent the last ten years stumping for Kucinich. I love the man, dearly. I would proudly call him my president. But it seems to me that the Democratic party keeps him around exactly like cheese in a mousetrap. He smells great, is tempting, and makes all the right noises, but ultimately he is shut out and the party leadership won't even let him speak at nationally televised debates.
I now refuse to vote for any part of the spineless Democratic party for anything. It's time to shake things up, and vote out every incumbent piece of shit clogging the sewer we call Washington. Now, if Kucinich would finally get it through his head that the Democratic party is beyond salvage and run as an independent then he would again become my #1 choice.
I am just wondering here, being a fan of Dennis.
I think he is probably right that this bill wont help shit.
So if he sticks to his belief and with the Republicans kill it, he will be the new enemy of the Dems and probably lose reelection in Cleveland because most Dems will regard him as the new spoiler.... but then he could break free and be the new Nader....
Another possibility is that the Bill will pass over his no vote but when the people find out it does not work, Dennis will be the natural old truth-teller in Congress and by then the WARS and Healthcare Fiascos will be so oppressive that he will have a good shot at the Democratic nomination for Prez.
Either way I hope he sticks to his guns.
But let us for the sake of a small riot, take a vote here, Would you rather see Kucinich run as an independent/new 3rd party coalition or as the Democratic nominee?
I'll take either option myself.... but realistically unless things get real radical Dennis could not win the Democratic nomination probably since they think he is too much a socialist who fights for the little guy.
"Either way I hope he sticks to his guns." I've never known him not to.
Personally, I have written several times to ask him to "Go Green" and take all of us with him. David Swanson told me he has talked to him about it and is getting tired of hearing his own voice asking. HOWEVER, if the "Countdown" appearance is any indication, his frustration and anger at his own party was palpable.
I don't think D.K. is even aware that he is more Democratic Socialist than Dim, fighting for workers and the other "little guys/gals".
Independent.
Dennis needs to leave those Dimwitocrats behind.
If Kucinich won't go to the Greens, the Greens must come to Kucinich.
Coalition with progressive Dems and take over the winning party.
BINGO! I believe the time is right for the Greens to approach him as per his interview on Countdown. You could FEEL the frustration and anger with the Dims as he spoke. He is VERY passionate about the bill being a sham.
False headline! Here's what he really said: "You're ... building on a foundation of privatization of our healthcare system."
Rep. Dennis Kucinich—
"This bill represents a give-away to the insurance industry—$70 billion a year, and no guarantees of any control over premiums, forcing people to buy private insurance. Five consecutive years of double-digit premium increases. I'm sorry, I just don't see that this bill is a solution. The insurance companies are the problem, and we're giving them a version of a bail-out."
"We need health care reform, we need Medicare for all. We need to join the rest of the industrial world in being able to provide healthcare for our people as a basic right. But, the fact is that one out of every three healthcare dollars goes for corporate profits, stock options, executive salaries, advertising, marketing, the cost of paper work—this bill doesn't change that. This bill doesn't change the fact that the insurance companies are going to keep socking it to the consumers."
"If you have $70 billion a year, put it into healthcare! You don't have to give the insurance industry their cut, because somehow they have so much influence in the political process."
"[This bill] is building on a foundation of privatization of our healthcare system. That's the problem! The insurance companies are the problem! They're nothing to build on. We build our hopes on the insurance companies and all we're going to have is more poverty in this country."
"And, people aren't going to get the care that they need. Remember, insurance companies make money NOT providing healthcare. That is a fundamental truth about our healthcare system."
Bravo Kucinich! Screw off, Obama! And screw off, all the so-called "progressives" who fight for Obama's bait-and-switch ripoff because they think defeating the Republicans is more important than the public interest.
A LOT of that pseudo-progressive on here and other sites, Naturally. Look back at the negative, closed-mind responses to my posts to identify a few....
Bravo Kucinich!
I can't stand Obama or any other Dems.
Kucinich appears to be the only Dem with guts, morals and decency.
Chelsea
Obama is playing politics as Dennis is working for the people. Before I watched the above video I knew the health care bill was a bail-out for the insurance companies, anytime you make a law that makes you buy something, this would be un-American to a non compromising American. The democrats have compromised time and time again playing, 'no balls' politics. Dennis Kucinich has big balls and stands alone most of the time. He has always fought for the people and he gets great support from the people of Cleveland who remember his stand against the corperate power of the day. I support Dennis Kucinich for President and Ron Paul for Vice President. Do you want change that we all can believe in? Go get-um Dennis!
Given the nature of Obama Democrats, I'm surprised Dennis can still walk.
