Show AllIt was never Obama's intention to have the single-payer option, he was working against it from the very beginning. The man is good at blowing smoke up America's behind with comments that "change" is going to be hard, that the citizen is going to have to except whatever compromises are given them and now they have it. The sweetheart deal between Obama and big pharma has netted them 30 million new customers and the customers will have no choice.
I wonder. If you cannot pay for the health insurance will you be breaking the law, and will that mean landing in a privatized prison? Sounds absurd but America being the way it is you never know.
If the private prison industry hands the Obama Regime enough money you can bet the criminalized uninsured will be clients of said contributor.
Robert Kuttner opened the subject of "The Corporate Elite" running the government....Yet, it was not continued...When you know that "The Rockefeller Foundation" helps fund PBS and Bill Moyers, you understand how certain topics can not be addressed and how a Robert Kuttner can say he would vote for the Healthcare Bill even though he knows it is one more corporate giveaway and that Obama had negotiated with Insurance Companies to get exactly what is coming out of Washington today.......
Imagine enslaving the Amerian Population to the "Corporate Elite" via, "You have to have a 401K Pension Plan. You have to pay to the Military Industrial Complex your tax dollars to keep the Occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan Going. You have to get medical insurance through the insurance companies or else we will fine you. You have to provide Wall Street more Capital through Taxes so that "They" can screw you."
Oh, its ok for "The American Corporate Elite" to destroy The United States so that they can have "Their New World Order"!
That's DEM Deform!
BILL MOYERS: Yes or no. If you were a senator, would you vote for this Senate health care bill?
MATT TAIBBI: No.
BILL MOYERS: Bob?
ROBERT KUTTNER: Yes.
Oh boy.
Moyers, Kuttner, Taibbi (and others who were not present in this video--like Glenn Greenwald) are all excellent writers--but to paraphrase David Halberstam, it's as if the contradictions of our age are all within each of them.
It's telling that Moyers would ask them what they would do if they were Senators--as after 50 years of a market society our politicians are very much a part of the market system.
The reason Kuttner is so brilliant at analyzing social systems and their problems may well be because he sees himself, primarily, as part of a system. But what's missing with Kuttner is an equally strong sense of self, and with it, insightful analyses on what should be done to fix the system.
That is, if challenging power based on a moral principle is what needs to be done--and boy it needs to be done!--then finding out how from someone like Kuttner--or perhaps the others too--is not a good idea.
What's needed is advice from people equally insightful as Kuttner--but who also happen to still think like citizens.
Here's what I mean with another prophetic quote from Halberstam:
"It was not untypical of McNamara at Ford, and later at Defense, that he started with good intentions, touched with a certain expediency and a little dissembling, and ended up not with a success, but with something even worse, for it became part of the auto mythology that safety does not sell, safety is bad and hurts business. It would take another decade and an outsider named Ralph Nader who did not worry about hiding his intentions or making it in the business world, to put the full moral pressure on the auto industry to bring some safety and consumer reforms."
When Kuttner et al. are done we'll be lucky to see any healthcare reform for another decade.
This is the Clinton clans' way of getting back at Obama for winning the presidency. They (with the help of Rahm) have just succeeded in sacrificing his presidency to their neo-liberal ideology. They have managed to split the progressive wing of the Democratic party, possibly self-destructed their chances of keeping the majority and reset the boundaries of centrism and solidified the transformation of the Republic into a one party state as well. Obama's bending over backward to please the party oligarchs (and this is where his propensity to act like the house boy reveals itself) left over from the Clinton era which, we remember, deregulated us right into the financial collapse and the subsequent handouts from the bottom of the spectrum of the public to the top... something they and their Republican "centrists" have been working on for decades... since Roosevlet actually.
