One thing you can say about Obama is:
he is VERY good at acting the "Pontius Pilate" role:
everything he says - from economics to militarism and the deaths and suffering incured by his own decisions or "leanings" -
speak of a Pontius Pilate who goes:
"I wash my hands of this blood"
but the difference is Obama HIMSELF is not just a spokesperson of the Cruelty, Exploitation, and Death dealing Machine - he IS part of it....
BUT still takes on the Pontius Pilate theatre of pretending to be "not really " responsible for the very things he puts into action or continues to .
he pretends that he is just the "captive" of circumstances:
"we inherited the mess from the previous administration"
and that his decisions are , if compromised NOT REALLY HIS FAULT........that's the game he is playing is really all about....while actively PURSUING them.
he is a bigger hypocrite than even George Bush, imo, detestable as that cretin no-good was as president.
Obama wants to straddle the "high minded" positions while at the same time speaks through both sides of his mouth.

The momentum of the gargantuan war machine, grown heavier over a decade of unfettered military-industrial spending, and greased by the support of neo-cons, GOP'ers, and liberals alike, makes a sudden change of plan--whether in the Middle East or elsewhere--quite unplausible.
For anyone to think that Barack Obama, or any person in the system, to stop this Titanic in mid ocean is ludicrous. The laws of physics clearly dictate that this concept we call momentum is a product of mass and velocity. For the war mentalit--that now represents the foreign policy of the United States--this product is far too enormous for rapid change.
Ask the driver of an 18-wheeler how far in advance of a planned stop he has to shift down and pump his brakes and perhaps you will get a sense of how futile it is to expect rapid changes in either foreign or domestic policy...

This kind of monumentally stupid propaganda, posing as 'analysis', is worse than nothing at all when addressed to the 'left'.
Think about it, who is Parenti talking to on Democracy Now? The Republican National Convention? A tea-party? Middle America? No, he's addressing the more or less hard core left. And he's telling us that the prime reason for the Afghanistan war is US politics. How upside down can reasoning be? The "true reasons for the war".
Well, so far I havent heard ANY plausible reasons for this war, other than our pride, oil pipelines, and keeping the military industrial complex rich.
But I am waiting to hear it. I genuinely want to know. What would be the true reasons for this war, according to Israelis and Rethuglicans?

[The "true reasons for the war"?]
That's the question.
What is the war (in Afghanistan) about? I don't know a satisfactory answer, but I know 3 starting points ...
1. the Webster Tarpley - Zbig Brzezinski thesis ... Tarpley posits a split in the oligarchy between the Zionists and the Rockefelleristas, with the Zionists now being on the out, and the R's in, the R's lead is set by Z. Brzezinski who has a lifelong animus to Russia, and also is a big board player who recognizes that the other bigs are Russia and China and ZB does not share the Zionists obsession with Zion, so, his plan is to cozy up to Iran, and destabilize Pakistan, and pit them against Russia/China. Tarpley was saying before O was elected that Pakistan was at the top of the list if he got elected .... and he was right.
2. Pepe Escobar is all over youtube with his pipelineistan thesis, which is self-explanatory
3. The Zionists did map out plans for total domination of the ME in the Clean Break and PNAC documents, so that is another starting point. These same Zionists manifestly did direct the invasion of Iraq, and the threats to Iran, and all of this stuff plays together, so Afghanistan could be another piece on their board.
[Well, so far I havent heard ANY plausible reasons for this war, other than our pride, oil pipelines, and keeping the military industrial complex rich.]
I mentioned the pipeline thesis, the military industrial complex is obviously a major player, but I don't think they provide the original motivation for the war. I think the 'pride' argument is nonsense, pure propaganda. And the 'Obama's pride' argument given by Parenti is beyond idiotic.
[according to Israelis and Rethuglicans?]
The only group that matters is the one directing the US, and that is, in my view, is the oligarchy which is made up of the US and British elites along with the Zionists. This is what we should be trying to figure out. It is what I'm trying to figure out. You can count on Christian Parenti to obscure the issue.

I agree with what Christian Parenti said. It’s painfully obvious that there's no military
solution in Afghanistan, no political solution either, and a totally
corrupt and incompetent government in Kabul with no moral or political authority.
Obama's escalation amounts to taking Karzai's side in what seems to be a tribalised civil war.
Rep. Barbara Lee of California introduced a bill, HR 3699, in Congress in early October, along with 22 other co-sponsors, barring funding for additional troop deployments to Afghanistan. No money, no troop deployment. As she said,”The legislation sends a clear and unequivocal message that we do not support further entrenching the US in Afghanistan by escalating militarily.”This is the sort of thing opponents of the occupation can support and build.
There's no reason for continuing this occupation. The occupation feeds
the Taliban.
We need to get the hell out, and soon.

Save up a few bucks and get ready to join millions that will soon be going to Washington D.C., in numbers greater than any protest march in the history of the United States. What will happen if Unions, Environmental orginizations, Political groups, Students, Teachers, Truckers, Climate Change Demanders, etc, come to Washington and flood every street for days in portest of the war, criminal bail-outs, foreclosures, student tuition hikes of 32%, and a demand for Climate Change laws and a SINGLE PAYER HEALTH CARE FOR EVERYONE!!!
What would happen???? Gee, maybe Washington just won't be able to function in front of the whole world! You think? Well, start talking and sending eveyone you know emails about such an event! Dwight Eisenhower warned against the military Industrial complex. Did he know about the future production of drones? Eisenhower feared that the U.S. and the world would be endangered by the careless, greedy, corporate, military complex. I recently heard some dollar figures relating to the murder of one so called " bad guy" in Afghanistan. Just the cost and the number of bombs needed to hit the target,(one man) was in the $200,000 range. This is madness!
"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. it is spending the sweat of it's laborers, the genius of it's scientists, the hopes of it's children..This is not a way of life at all in any true sense. Under the cloud of threatening war, it is humanity hanging from a cross of iron." Dwight D. Eisenhower
Americans need to know the true cost of the wars, the weapons, the troop, civilian deaths and Americans who are not healed, fed, clothed, sheltered and those imprisoned unjustly. Many religions have a just war theory like the United Nations rules of war. Proportionality of human causalities to the objectives is paramount in determining the justice of the wars.Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq wars fail to meet the criteria of just wars by astronomical numbers of suffering, dead, seriously injured, innocent human beings. Truly "hanging from a cross of iron".
