Maine Voices Speak Out for Marriage Equality

As Maine inches closer to a November vote to affirm the Marriage Equality Act passed by state legislators earlier this year, the Protect Maine Equality-No on 1 Campaign asks us to take a moment to listen to those who stepped forward at a huge public hearing on April 22, 2009 to support full equality for all loving couples. Nearly 4,000 people attended the hearing, with marriage equality supporters out-numbering the opposition 4 to 1.

In the final weeks of this hard-fought campaign, the "No on 1 Campaign" needs those voices to resound once again as outside opponents from across the country pour money into the opposition campaign.  Make no mistake, the forces of oppression and discrimination understand the wide ranging and national implications of Maine's referendum.  History makes its mark in Maine, but only if all of us who yearn and fight for fuller equality step up to be sure that what happened to Proposition 8 in California does not repeat itself in Maine.  Watch and be inspired. If you can find a way to help, please do.
