The Yes Men Pull Off Prank Claiming US Chamber of Commerce Had Changed Its Stance on Climate Change
The business community got a shock on Monday when its leading advocacy group appeared to make a startling announcement. A statement purporting to come from the Chamber of Commerce said the group had dropped its opposition to congressional climate change legislation and would now even support taxing carbon emissions. The news wires quickly picked up the story, and within minutes it was being reported on the websites of outlets including the New York Times and Washington Post. It also made its way onto cable news, including the Fox Business Network. It was all a prank pulled off by the Yes Men.

Show AllWe need to invent a machine that kills fascism.
It seems the only hope, theoretical as it evidently is, that exists right now is for this machine you speak of to be an AWAKENED People of the USA; awakened and [active], very. If it's not The People, then the situation is definitely hopeless; while even if counting on The People to wake up and really act also seems to have no better odds of happening, either. Now that (or this) seems like a seriously or awfully gloomy situation to me.
Damn Internet. Since CD did some server work over the past few days, I can only make very short posts. Also can't send email using Thunderbird and my yahoo account, except for very short text. Created a google email account tonight and this works! Had this problem for a few weeks around a month ago or so and the problem cleared after CD did server work for several hours, but there might not have been a relationship between the two.
Speaking of the cocka-a-mamie CoC, Chamber of Commerce, if anyone needs another view on what is going on involving blatant war on the USA by the ruling elites of the USA and their puppet U.S. government, then read the following article and then there should not be a shadow of doubt remaining.
I'm having posting problems again, only very short posts making it to actual posting. The article'll be in the next post.
And the CoC is aided and abetted by another rogue entity that's evidently very tyrannical, giving another view at how the government is being used to wage war on The People of the USA.

Wise readers at CD will certainly appreciate these two articles by Prof. Kozy.
"Whose Country is it anyway? A political-economic oligarchy has taken over the United States of America",

Author: "John Kozy is a retired professor of philosophy and logic who blogs on social, political, and economic issues. After serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, he spent 20 years as a university professor and another 20 years working as a writer", and his site is www.jkozy.com.
A particularly interesting paragraph is the one about the CoC oligarchy along with quotes from Thomas Jefferson, Mayer Amschel Rothschild, and William Henry Vanderbilt.
I absolutely love this. Shows how gullible this corporate media is. PWND and PWND for a good cause! lolz.
zephyrregent,
I agree. This is one of the few effective tools to break up propaganda. I agree with others that Yes Men laid out a sane and even pro-business agenda that made every sense in the world.
This is so perfect. The Yes Men put on a joke chamber of commerce show and outline the smartest plan yet put forward by anybody. I'm serious. I want this joke implemented right now!
I wonder if they could do this with all government and corporate press conferences? Do they have doubles for members of Congress and the Senate? Yes, it's a good idea, disrupt the government/corporate propaganda and insert a real message as often as possible.
They only have to pretend to be spokespersons or press secretaries, not the actual member of Congress.
Direct action democracy at it's best. Clearly protected by the First Amendment, and the antidote to Limburger and Bicker. On brave soldiers!
Wonderful. I especially liked the Chamber-pot guy's refusal to answer any questions after clearly stating he would! Keep on speaking up.
That was so beautiful. Yes Men rule!
Awesome job. And he kept his cool after being exposed too.
This is beautiful. What the Yes Men are illustrating is that the profounding anti-human stances taken by these extremely powerful organizations like the the Chamber of Congress are NOT publicized by the organizations, for fear of the public backlash.
The Chamber is saying that given the choice between
1. impacting the current low business tax environment, or
2. killing the planet
The Chamber finds option 2 as the lessor of the two evils. But, it doesn't talk about it (except to its rich Republican benefactors). By putting on a fake news conference, the Yes Men have exposed the Chambers inhumane policy, putting it on the front page, where it belongs, where we can all see it for what it is.
