Show AllHilarious.
I contacted our major regional newspaper regarding the fact that they got rid of the community voices page where residents can submit commentaries on various community, economic, social and environmental issues. They said they did this to save money but at the same time, they kept the celebrity gossip page- a full-size page of photos and gossip about the lives of celebrities.
The editor of this paper deemed that more readers wanted to read the celebrity gossip rather than important commentary about regional community, economic social and environmental issues.
Mainstream journalism has reached a new height of BAD.
"The editor of this paper deemed that more readers wanted to read the celebrity gossip rather than important commentary about regional community, economic social and environmental issues (sic)."
I hate to admit this but the editor is probably correct in that assessment.
Remember the old joke about the farmers and the mule and the two-by-four? The biggest problem that Progressives face is getting the public to pay attention to their own self-interest.

Create your own paper and drive that one out of business, by providing what it lacks: real news and a forum for civic participation.
sheeple don't like those things
Yes, I plan to. Progressives need to start new newspapers, radio and TV programs in their communities. They must have broad appeal so we aren't just preaching to the choir.
This is a time of opportunity.
Awesome, good luck!
Hilarious indeed; and infuriating. Stewart does loving outrage brilliantly.
Looking only at CNN, supposedly the most "liberal" of MSM, Stewart strips naked the cynical, calculated deceit of manufacturing consent in the profitable service of power. It is devastating for CNN and must-watch for the curricula of every school of journalism ---Propaganda 101. No one can watch this and swallow MSM Kool-Aid so easily again.
Newspaper readership is dropping partly because of journalism profession and journalism school groupthink.
Newspaper journalists that I know are no more in touch with what is happening "on the ground" than are the politicians that they report on.
Ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha!
I just shit myself silly.
Ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha!
Damn, I did it again!
... ok lets leave it there!
:)
CQ from Maine
Just too goatfucking funny!
The Daily Show is boring.
I'll have to leave it there.
We're going to have to leave it there. 'it' is our education about the issues.
Whenever an institution such as CNN gets an competitor like Fox Noise, it either rises to the challenge or plays down to the level of its' opponent. Unfortunately for the USA, it has done the latter.
CNN's slide is indicative of the absolute decline of American broadcast news; so much so that non-US English speaking outlets such as the BBC & Al Jazeera English are infinitely better options if you have the wherewithal to access them.
Sadly, BBC World and Al Jazeera English are not available on television in most of the USA. The United States has the most sophisticated and expensive corporate media propaganda system in the world. When one travels outside the bubble of the USA this becomes very clear. "News" "World News" is nothing but infotainment now; the National Enquirer of TV. Orwell's Panopticon
Fox/CNN are what the vast majority of Americans see as "serious TV news". I have not watched TV news since I returned to the USA over a year ago. Fortunately, one can access much more credible information sources on the internet and the Pacifica radio network KPFA 94.1 Berkeley, CA. and KPFA.org.
You can watch both on Livestation for free: http://www.livestation.com/
It also has chat rooms where you can talk to other viewers.
I haven't watched CNN for many, many, months. I don't learn anything when I watch them -- it's exactly like Jon Stewart demonstrated on the Daily Show -- "We have to leave it there!"
It was particularly disgusting to watch James Carville argue about unemployment numbers being better -- for whom? The numbers keep rising, and the real figures are much higher than various M$M stations and journalists report -- unless you read Paul Craig Roberts and a handful of other journalists.
On target, as always.
