Majora Carter: An Environmental Renaissance
You don't have to live in Walden to understand that there's a connection between the environment, our economy, and the way we live. Majora Carter, an urban redeveloper and the founder of Sustainable South Bronx (SSBx), has worked since the late 1990s to bring together the worlds of urban renewal and environmental sustainability. The connections are many but often overlooked.
"Energy consumption, public health, storm-water management, prison recidivism, school performance, social services, stagnant property values, climate change adaptation, and income & health disparities can all be tied to environmental remediation on a municipal or regional scale," according to the Majora Carter Group.
Sound like a tall order? How does one make it work? Carter joins us in studio.
