Photographing America's War Dead

Can the American people handle the truth? The Obama administration seems to think so. On Thursday, Robert Gates, the US defence secretary, overturned the ban on photographing the flag-draped coffins of fallen US soldiers arriving at Dover air force base in Delaware from Iraq and Afghanistan.

CNN's Wolf Blitzer Lapdogs While Senator Hatch Lies

This week, Wolf Blitzer interviewed Senator Orin Hatch (R-UT). I watched dumbfounded as Hatch lied, and Blitzer obediently chose not to challenge the Senator. It's the same lapdog reporting that enabled Bush & Co. to marshal public support for war in Iraq, to torture and spy, and allows politicians to continue to lie with impunity. Tough luck if you thought the last eight years would give guys like Blitzer a backbone.

Will TV News Ever Apologize for Condit Hoax?

For four months beginning in May 2001, major U.S. media outlets, including all three cable news channels, took the American public for a ride -- perpetrating a hoax that a married congressman was somehow involved in the disappearance of a female intern.

As I witnessed the farce from inside cable news, I could see it was all about ratings and had nothing to do with journalism.

DC Journalists Love GOP Obstructionists, But Americans Don't

There appears to be a pretty big gap between what DC journalists think Americans think, and what Americans actually think. No better example of this can be found than the "winners" and "losers" that DC media are proclaiming in the wake of the passage of the stimulus bill, and what DailyKos/Research 2000 polling on the subject indicates.

DC opinion:  It's good for the Republicans!

Coming to NBC: 'To Catch a Cheney'

I have a plan to get NBC out of last place in the ratings. I'm promising blockbuster audience and international buzz. As a once disgruntled ex-employee, I now just want to be positive and help NBC, which needs all the free advice it can get.
