Researchers Name the World's Dirtiest Power Plants, Introduce Website NEW YORK -- A new study by an independent think tank names and shames the power companies responsible for high levels of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in the United States and abroad. Releasing its findings Wednesday, the Washington, DC-based Center for Global Development (CDG) said that electricity generation is responsible for one quarter of the world's total CO2 emissions -- the main cause of global warming -- and U.S. power plants account for fully 25 percent of the emissions generated by the power sector worldwide.

NEW YORK -- A new study by an independent think tank names and shames the power companies responsible for high levels of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in the United States and abroad.

Releasing its findings Wednesday, the Washington, DC-based Center for Global Development (CDG) said that electricity generation is responsible for one quarter of the world's total CO2 emissions -- the main cause of global warming -- and U.S. power plants account for fully 25 percent of the emissions generated by the power sector worldwide.
