AFSC Responds to Iran Earthquake
PHILADELPHIA, PA - December 29 - In its time-honored tradition of helping relieve and prevent suffering through both immediate aid and long-term development, the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) is earmarking proceeds from its Crisis Fund to help the tens of thousands affected by the recent earthquake in Iran.

Working through partners working on-the-ground in the region, funds are now being sought to purchase vitally needed supplies in the region. Purchasing supplies in the region is the most cost-effective and saves on shipping costs.

However, emergency funds to date fall far short of likely needs.

Cash donations should be made payable to the AFSC Crisis Fund and be sent to AFSC Development, 1501 Cherry St., Philadelphia, PA 19102. To contribute via Visa or MasterCard, call 1-888-588-2372, ext. 1. through the AFSC website.

Backed by a 86-year history of humanitarian relief efforts, the AFSC Emerge ncy and Material Assistance Program (EMAP) has provided crucial, life-saving assistance to people struggling for survival — whether caught in the crossfire of war or suffering the horrors of earthquake or famine. AFSC helps those who are suffering without regard to their religious, ethnic, or political affiliation. Working collaboratively to relieve pain and suffering has been a major focus of the Service Committee's highly regarded international affairs work

In addition to the national center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, EMAP has regional centers in Cambridge, Massachusetts; High Point, North Carolina; Richmond, Indiana; and San Francisco, California.
