Statement by American Progress President John Podesta on the Energy Bill
WASHINGTON - November 21 - American Progress President John D. Podesta issued the following statement after the Senate blocked the Energy Bill today:

"Today’s vote to deny continued consideration of the Energy Policy Act of 2003 is a tremendous victory for our economy, our security, and our health and environment. Bills that are written by lobbyists under cover of darkness should never see the light of day. It is a rare moment when traditional conservatives stand in unison with their progressive colleagues these days. But that’s how bad the Energy Policy Act is - there’s something for everyone to hate. It is a bill grown so heavy from its own weight of poorly conceived policy and expensive pork barrel handouts that it managed to circumvent the very goals it was meant to achieve. We applaud the Senators who led the fight against the Energy Policy Act of 2003. We particularly commend the leadership of Senators Schumer, Sununu, Reid, Gregg, Durbin, Collins, Feinstein, and McCain, Snowe, and Boxer."
