- March 31 - In a foreign policy instant replay, Congresswoman Cynthia
McKinney (D-GA-4th), member of the International Relations and Armed Services Committees, says the United States has flipped back in its
diplomacy playbook to what appears to be its favorite hail mary play: throwing the bomb. In its latest version of bomb diplomacy, it appears that
the U.S. has decided to make Europe's Slobodan Milosevic the equivalent of
Central Asia's Saddam Hussein.
Amid reports that Yugoslavia's Slobodan Milosovic has contacted Iraq's
Saddam Hussein, it seems only natural that Milosovic would reach out and touch someone who has experienced a similar fate: unrelenting bombing by a
sophisticated U.S.-led force.
"The policy of containment was formerly meant for Communist expansionism,"
says Congresswoman McKinney. "Today, in the New World Order of the United States being the sole superpower, it is meant for the various "rogue" states
around the globe out to thwart the global interests of the United States."
American and allied warplanes threw fresh waves of bombs and missiles
against Yugoslavia yesterday, concentrating again on air defenses to clear skies for manned strikes yet to come against the military forces in the
field.
For the second day, NATO massed a great deal of its fire on the regional and
central command posts that bind Yugoslavia's 2,000 anti-aircraft into a modern integrated system. Other targets
included military airfields in the city of Nis, barracks in Urosevac and Prizren and a radio and
television transmitter at Mount Jastrebac south of Belgrade, the capital.
"The bombings will bring more war, not peace. Already, Milosevic
continues to shell Kosovor villages. His unacceptable behavior has not been changed
by the bombings. We are trying to facilitate, through force, a peace process when neither side wants peace; and we seem to be promoting the use
of force to change antiquated borders. It's easy to lob bombs and missiles, but what we really need is a forward, thoughtful diplomacy," concludes
Congresswoman McKinney.
